Speaker volume

Featured Replies

The last couple of months I've noticed that randomly speakers in the my car won't be working, could be drivers side 1 day or passenger, no consistency, adjust the volume & they fire into life.

Is this a sign that the speakers are on there way out or is it a issue with the stereo? car is a 2011 octavia with bolero..

Any help would be muchly appreciatted.

My guess would be that the wires have got some corrosion into them.

This would explain that increasing the volume brings speakers into life. When you increase the volume you pass a higher current through those wires, which then possibly is able to overcome the increased resistance of the wires.

You can try to test this by measuring the resistance between the speaker and the amp (that is usually located under drivers seat)

Also, a distinct possibility is the speaker units on both sides are becoming faulty.  Commonly the tweeters get a fracture on the wound voicecoil and it intermittently causes sound to drop in and out. It is not fixable, only replacement of the driver unit (tweeter or mid bass) is possible. Can happen on the mid bass unit as well but I have had the tweeter problem on a few VAG cars now.

The drivers side tweeter does crackle slightly every now n again depending on what I'm listening to, looks like it's a speaker upgrade time for the ol girl then.

If it is crackling it is pretty likely it is that problem, could be a connection problem - like wiring through pillar into door -  but my best guess is likely voicecoils.  You should be able to get the tweeters as a spare part or look at something aftermarket, but you'd probably need to replace the mid bass and tweeter as a combination and on both sides if going aftermarket i.e. a complete set.  Cheaper option just try to replace one genuine unit and see if it solves your problem. Then do the other if it does solve it.

This maybe the correct part. Double check with TPS/ Skoda or erwin.
