Fuel pump noise?

Featured Replies

I think I've mentioned this elsewhere on the forum before but the search function isn't pulling anything up on my phone.

Anyway... has anyone noticed being able to quite noticeably hear the fuel pump in their Fabia under normal driving conditions? Sort of like a high-pitched whining coming from the back seats? It's been something I've noticed since I got my 1.4 TDI. It's been in the garage today for a recall fix, and I asked them to take a look. Went round the block with the technician and he suggested it's the fuel pump and that it's normal.

I've not driven another car where the fuel pump is this loud. People have asked me if the car is electric before now, so passengers notice it too.

Oddly, the Fabia I've had as a courtesy car does not make the same noise and is a 1.2 TSI. Do the petrol/diesel versions use very different fuel pumps?

Any thoughts appreciated!

Sorry but OT.

Is there a 'Recall' and did you get a letter for a 'Recall' or is this the Service Campaign with Skoda contacting Registered Keepers they have details of for the

Water Pump Service Campaign to replace?

Do they show here?

I didn't get a letter - I got a phone call from my dealer stating it was a "recall" - but I believe it is the service campaign.

But that's not really relevant to my post here. It's just incidental that the car is in for that work to be carried out.

Cheers.

They are very lose with that 'Recall' term on the phone, and many owners miss Service Campaign Actions because there is no Recall only contact with owners or keepers that Skoda / VW have details of, or get servicing done at main dealerships

As to the Fuel Pump,  as long as your visit and report of a noise is logged, you will need to try another identical car and see if it sounds the same.

I am Mutt & Jeff and it seems that Skoda Dealerships like employing people hard of hearing or named 'Tommy as well'.

Can anybody with a 1.4 TDI let me know if they've got the same noise please? See original post.

It's the Canister hose.. it's probably a ribbed plastic pipe, there was a recall to replace any with a rubber hose instead.. speak to the dealer to get it sorted..

Is there a thread here or a page on Skoda's website that references this recall? I'll make a note of this.

It has been at the dealer twice in the past 2 months and both times I've been fobbed off.

It is not a 'Recall'.  Recalls are only done by Skoda / VWG when Safety matters require them to or they are caught cheating and even then not compulsory Recalls.

It is a TPI.  So just get the Service Desk Employees or the Technicians to let their fingers do the walking on the keyboard or they can call someone that knows what is what.
