the 8v is also avolkswagen engine.

800 for head gasket seems too expensive. try a few specialists. would have expected no more than £250??? or are they doing other work as well?

Redbaron, the 1.4 8v (68bhp) is NOT a Volkswagen engine.

£800.00 is a bit steep, the dealer should only have to replace the gasket's and coolant. and possibly the header tank which might also be contaminated with ol/water mixture. When we did the early failures even the head bolts were re-used and the head did not have to be skimmed like it used to on the older 136 1300 engines fitted to Rapids,Favorits and Felicia's which the Fabia engine is a distant cousin.

Why does the headgasket go in the first place? The headgasket must be secondary to some other fault.... surely if this isn't remedied it will happen again in the future?

The headgasket is a known fault. The replacement is a modified one that doesnt have the same fault.

£800 is rather expensive, pretty sure we charge about half that.
