Steering wheel grips or something?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

the steering wheel on my octy 1.9TDi elegance is so smooth and leathery which is actually at times rather dangerous. I need some grip on it. The MK1 steering wheels were lovely but the Mk2 is not.

I have tried a nice wooden style cover which smelt so strong even after a month, that i was getting chest pains and breathing problems, so that's out.

Anyone know of any kind of grips that could be stuck on the sides to help, or failing that, a cheap decent new alternative?

Thanks in advance.

Yes not sure I've heard of this before but..... Try cleaning it or even scuffing it a little with a mild kitchen scourer.  Do an area first and see if you can live with the finish.

Failing that, you could wrap tennis overgrip over it. Wouldn't look amazing but would give you grip without terrible fumes.

Wash the leather thoroughly with a warm water mild washing up mix and dry before use.

You'll remove all the sweat, crisps and chips grease, chocolate and sticky drink splashes.

If your mitts aren't a little sweaty they have less of a grip on the leather, perhaps driving gloves would help.
