Detailing on a budget

Featured Replies

A friend of mine wants to start detailing, he is in the middle of restoring his house so he has a limited budget of £50-100, there are some cheap products such as the carplan demon range etc, etc

can anyone recommend some cheap detailing products/kits

What products does he have?

How far into detailing does he want to get?

The essentials are:-

2x buckets, (can be had for £2-3 each from most supermarkets for builders style buckets).

1x wash mitt, (£3 from asda).

1x drying towel, (again, £3-5 from asda).

The next essentials are wheel cleaner, shampoo, microfibre cloths (360gsm is suitable for most jobs from cleaning to buffing, anything low (280gsm, etc...) is good for cleaning but too harsh for buffing and product wiping in), detailing brushes (you can use paint brushes but use a masking tape to tape up the metal areas to reduce risks of the metal surface scratching the paint, plastic or wheels), glass cleaner (most spray on household glass cleaners will do here,  all purpose cleaners (APCs) can be used from the house, inside the car (sometimes best to dilute it a little say 2:1 with water as some can be overly aggressive on some surfaces) safely), last one really is a wax or sealant.

Most supermarkets have relatively good car products these days (tell him to stay away from Wonder Wheels in the grey/silver bottle, it's a good cleaner but it's also acid based and really not good for wheels, used repeatedly), Wonder Wheels in the clear bottle with a red-ish liquid inside is great as it's safe, and a wheel cleaner and brakedust remover in one.

Thanks for the reply so far he got the essentials, a demon gift pack, a pack of microfibre towels and simoniz wax.

Highly recommend the G3 clay mitt, about £15, after using one for the first time today.
