190ps performance

Featured Replies

Can anybody tell me how does the 190 tdi 4x4 dsg go? It is not a missile for sure, but can it surprise when the kick down is engaged? I ordered one in sportline trim, don't know if i made a mistake by not ordering a 280 (price in my country is few hundred more for the TDI,but i have a 18yo son,so i was kind of worried to give him a car with that much power to go for a ride, and to keep him out of the driving seat is not an option for me). I never took neither of them for a drive,so what can i expect? Also, dealer doesn't have an idea when it is going to be built, but are expecting to deliver around mid june. I don't know will it be my2018,i guess i'll just have to wait and see. Car was ordered in late april, and expected delivery is 45-90 days, but they say it is more like 45-60,if you don't go for cream interior,in that case waiting is much, much longer.

Also, does sportline come with progessive steering as standard? It wasn't listed in the optional extras sheet at the dealership, but it is listed on their website configurator, also it was very cheap option (only about 150 euros) so i would definetly like to have it on my car,and i would have selected it if it was offered. Now it is too late to change order (and if i could i wouldn't do it,it would be too complicated in my case). And even people at the dealership couldn't tell me if it was standard fit,but they don't really care or have knowledge, that's why i came here looking for help and advice

190 and 280 are crazy power for a young driver anyway..

Depends on the tax and mileage you drive, I would have taken 280hp if I can affors it.

There is no price difference between the two in my country, tdi is even a bit more expensive (and will hold its value a bit better too) but that is really irrelavant. Main reason was son behind the wheel, and now i am interested does 190 have sufficient go,can it push you in the seat?

The 190 4x4 DSG will go once above 1,900rpm (when the turbo is up to speed) and can catch you out at lower rpm if the DSG box suddenly decides to drop a gear or two unexpectedly after an extra 'dab' of throttle wakes it up!  Push you in your seat...no not really.  It is more of an acceptable rate of progress, but not rapid.

Having also got a BMW 3-Series with 204bhp, the 190 is no match for that and doesn't have the torque.  OK our BMW is a 3.0L 6-cyl but similar bhp (though we drive torque of course).

Different countries have different specs so what is standard for you may not be the same here and vice versa.

Well, the torque is 190s strong point,a friend said it felt faster than 320d,also i figured that in superb 4x4 power wouldn't be as exciting as in lets say,rwd 3 series (where you can kick the tail out etc.). Well,i hope it will be suficient.

I've driven both variant (TDI 190 vs TSI 280).

The 280 is hands down a better vehicle to drive. Much more linear and no lags, the TDI 190 is bit sluggish off the line and its vibration / noise is a bit rough for a diesel engine, especially when it is cold.

The TDI 190 is not bad when it gets up to speed due to the diesel torque, but it is no wear near as smooth and linear as the 280.

If just considering performance and if there is no price diff, I would suggest the TSI 280 as it is about 10k more for the 280 in Australia.

Sure, the 280 is going to be worst in fuel consumption, but it is so much more fun to drive.

Well,i already selected the tdi,so i gues it is not a choice any more...

Whatever way you look at it the 190 diesel has a lot of tourque 295 lbs/ft 1750-3250 rpm - Peak power 190ps is at 3500-4000rpm

The 280 ps petrol has less torque 258 lbs/ft but over a wider rev range 1700-5600 rpm - Peak power 280ps is at 5600-6500 rpm

So  will it "have sufficient go,can it push you in the seat?" - er yes either would

Interestingly the 220ps petrol has the same tourque as the 280 -  258 lbs/ft over a different rev range 1500-4400 rpm - Peak power 4500-6200 rpm

you will not be pushed in the seat, the torque is more tha enough but splits very smooth and you feel it all the time, not as a kick.

nice choice, enjoy it!

That is exhactly what i am looking for,old pd diesels use to get on my nerves because after initial push they were left breathless in short while. I'm glad they changed to more petrol like delivery. Currently i drive 2.0 fsi 150ps octavia scout (bought it new, proved to be reliable and good vehicle) so i guess that 190 superb will be nice upgrade performance wise.

have you made test drive?

you are speaking about performance and selected tdi tractor?!

Well i don't want a sports car, just something that can keep a nice pace and easily overtake when i want to. I am fully aware that 280 blows it out of the water performance wise, but i have 18yo son (who has his car,but i know he would want to drive superb and i wouldn't be to happy ti give him near 300hp car). Other petrols are not an option in my country, here they offer just 2.0 tsi and 2.0 tdi with 4x4 (which is a must for me),and those two are priced the same (petrol 280 is a bit cheaper). I didn't take the test drive, they dont have test vehicle with that powertrain. But i looked on the internet, that superb is like bmw x5 3.0d which i drove and was very satisfied performance wise(both are 7 sec to 100 kph, superb is slightly faster to 200kph,but that is about that). I am far more excited about the sportline trim, those seats are fantastic.

I've got a sportline 190 dsg 4x4 and found it ok for power but then bought a DT Uk power box which takes it to approx 240 bhp, and it's now a animal for a big car, it pulls from low down rpm and with it being 4x4 it doesn't have the usual front wheel drive issue trying to put power down, it's totally transformed the big car and surprises a lot of so called  hot hatches out.

Sounds like you want contradictory things but perhaps not, what car does the son drive?

Perhaps get the 280 and load the car with 500kg worth of sandbags before you give it to your son, so it won't be so snappy :)))

I bought him hyundai santa fe SUV. I don't think i am contradictory ,i just want something that will easily do 100mph on the highway, have nice pull when overtaking(so i don't have to plan every overtaking half an hour early) and once in a while give it some beans. 280 is faster, but a think 190 will serve me just fine.

I meant keep 100-120 mph on highway.

No one ever regretted getting a 280. Not sure if same can be said about the diesel :)

+1 :)

280 has blown all of my expectations even in non-crazy mode driving... it is just such a great drive.

I know. But you gotta understand that i don't have courage to give a 18 year old boy a car that can do 0-60 in 5 seconds. I just wanted to know will diesel meet my expectations,i know it is much slower that 280,but i didn't have 280 vs diesel in mind when i started this topic,i wamted ti hear your expirience with 190 dsg 4x4,how does it drive.

Yes, it probably will meet your expectations! More than enough power for everyday driving.

I've owned the 190 4x4 dsg for 4 months. It hasn't shocked me but it's definitely pleased me. Comfortable large cruiser with plenty of grunt to overtake with ease from 50mph pulling very nicely all the way to around 115mph before slowly easing on upwards, reaching about 140mph top speed.

It's set up for comfort and smooth driving, but if you put it in Sport mode on the drive selector it'll improve the sensitivity of the throttle and hold a lower gear longer, revving higher. Imo it gives the car a touch more eagerness and is the way to go if you want I bit more fun. The tiptronic gear shift is also nice when preempting curves and roundabouts at speed...

As said, the standard drive is pleasant, plenty quick enough and with the Canton sound system I can't get enough still!

Great family car. Superb value for money.

Well, no regrets about my TDi... but I suppose I'd have to go drive a 280 to find out ;)
