LED front turn light

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Does eneybody have a easy guide to replace the front turn signal to LED in xenon light.

It is a o3 Combi 14.

I know it needs a repair kid (really stupid)

Do you need to have the front bumper+lights off?

Regards Daniel and thanks

You can try accessing and doing it "under the hood" without "bumper off" thing, more or less blindly. I did it.

I used a small hole saw to help me easier crack open the rear access hole on the headlight, then I replaced them blindly by touch & feel. Took me like 45 minutes for both.

This has been discussed a lot on the forum (search is your friend).

That's just overdoing it. :D Not needed unless you really have some giant hands.

Maybe the Donald could help you fit the new bulbs?

I recently had a go at this and it's difficult without taking the bumper off and giving yourself space to work with, but it is do-able.

I did the driver side first as there was more room behind the unit. Essentially used a Swiss army knife to break the cap and pull it out so that I could access the bulb. You then need to twist the bulb holder which may be difficult if you have large hands. Repair cap needs to be fitted after completion and you will need 2x as these come as singles, not a complete kit.

Ended up reversing everything and fitting the original halogens though. The LED bulbs I had were bright, but long, and because of this the top of the reflective surface in the headlamp around the indicator bulb, did not light up as well as with the halogen. Didn't look as bad at night time but during the day, only the lower half of the headlamp was lit by the LED. Ideally you need a reasonably short LED bulb with LEDs as close to the PWY24W base as possible, and all the way round the bulb, as you need as much light as possible to be directed from the bulb into the reflective surface inside the headlamp.

I wish Philips did a PWY24W version of the Xtreme Vision PY21W bulb I have fitted for rear indicators. They are absolutely perfect as a halogen replacement.

None of the major brands like Philips do a replacement LED in the correct fitment. I swapped mine back to original halogen as I haven't found a bulb yet that looks good enough for me to be 100% happy with the light reflection.

A few others on here have done it and seem happy, so hopefully they will share what bulbs they chose.
