Another remap question on tsi.

Featured Replies

Evening  all.

Recently bought a 62 plate monty with the 86bhp tsi engine.

I currently own the old vrs tdi too but it's coming to the end of its life.Had for a fair few years now because I love the punch and the economy.

Driving the new monty on holiday in the Lake District it fun to drive and better handling than my old vrs.

Driving around town etc it's a  really refined engine and nice to drive but pulling away  from a junction or slip road onto a busy road it's bloody dangerous.

It just seems pointless revingit past 4000 rpm as it goes no where, even on the motorway pulling in the fast lane you have to plan it Wisley.

Obviously driving my diesel for years with low down grunt hasn't helped matters.

My question is anyone remapped a 86bhp model to the quoted 120bhp and tell me how it drives? I'm curious to know if it revs cleanly right through the revs with power

And if it still drives nicely being driven normally. I'm looking at a map from shark performance. The 86bhp is just a detuned 105 model on the map hence getting the same end figure as a 105 model.

I work on ford's for a living... and the fiesta 1l 100 hp pulls like a train in comparison to the skoda.  The 120 hp fiesta version is great to drive and I'm hoping for a feel like one of them. Thanks for reading my jibrish.

Mine is a 60 reg 1,2 tsi 85hp elegance with 69k miles, I had remapped to 121hp ,Sept 16, and reckon that the 0-60 has gone from quoted 11.7 secs to a little above the 9 sec. It is fun to drive now, best in 2nd with 60ish limit, 3rd about 90+, 4th 110 ish with 5th 120+ . I notice the MC has sane 0-60 quoted whereas the 1.4 has 10.2.

As for mpg running around is similar if a little better than standard, 36 v now 38 , long runs again slightly improved, but pushed it drops for obvious reasons, fun. I'm very pleased with my remap see my post in performance. I've also uprated all suspension bushes to poly to improve stability that has made a big difference also recently fitted powerflo stainless steel catback exhaust.

I got my remap , which I recommend, from http://www.unicornmotordevelopments.com/ecu-remapping-services.html

The first buyer of car for some reason didn't opt for  esp or traction control which adds to the driving experience.

General use 95 fuel but often run 99 to get better performance.

It does rev freely, will add power and torque figures when I get home., My son has a mk1 07 yr vrs and performance is on par with it, he prefers the diesel for economy as he does a lot more mileage in his commute to work than me.

Dyno before at the wheel 88hp at 5,843 rpm with torque 124.2 ft lbs at 2,452 rpm and Dyno now 120.7hp at 4,943rpm with torque 157.4ft lbs at 2,883 rpm.

My remap made 136.9 Bhp and I had the 86

best thing I've done along with the rear anti roll bar..

it's smoother and it pulls past to 6k now as above I don't have esp or traction either. I can get 50mpg on my way to work and 40 just on the way home

mine was done on rolling road. Also have a cat back with no silencers

My exhaust has two resonator (no baffles) boxes to make it a quiet system. I tend not take mine over 5k rpm as the power drops off above peak rpm. kmackmontecarlo your peak power rpm is probably above mine, I wanted and a got a balanced remap. Have considered rarb but the poly bushes do a good job, that's not say I'll not fit one. My cat has a about a 2 year life left so considering making it a stainless steel full system.

How long has the map been on,and has it proved reliable?

Also who did it and how much did it cost (and a link if you have one)?

About a year now, not had any issues with it. It was S.O.S Motorsport that done it was £300 at the time as they had an offer on or £250 for a generic and printout... no brained to get custom. and if I can find the print out I'll post a picture. And it's barely noisy with no silencers.

It would appear that jbs auto design have 150 plus with a decat and they have hybrid turbos In development and they make up to 200.

Yeah I was told by the powerflo engineer that exhausts fitted to turbo charged cars are quieter than those fitted to non turbo engines , but I wanted it very quiet.

Thanks for the replies, I'd be happy with 120bhp  the engines aren't the strongest so wouldn't want any more.

I'm pleased you  recomended the remap.
