Octavia vRS Remap/reliability

Featured Replies

Hi,

Ive just joined the forum, and the following questions have probably been asked before, but......

I'm thinking of getting my 03 Octavia vRS remapped, it is currently completely standard.

Is the 'standard first upgrade' 230bhp?

What torque should I expect with this upgrade?

Are there any reliability issues with this upgrade (eg clutch)?

How much more are the insurance companies likely to charge if I tell them?

I currently get 32-35mpg ecnonmy-wise, how will the upgrade effect this?

Is there anywhere you would recommend to get it done in the Teesside/North Yorks area?

many thanks

How much more are the insurance companies likely to charge if I tell them?'if' should be 'when'. Non-disclosure is bad bad bad. It might not cost any more ranging thru to hundreds of pounds depending on your driving record

I currently get 32-35mpg ecnonmy-wise, how will the upgrade effect this?No effect/very little in normal driving (2/3mpg). Booting it is different

Is there anywhere you would recommend to get it done in the Teesside/North Yorks area? There's a Golf mkiv place in Darlington that does Revo i think

many thanks

I agree with what Dave says.

I've had a re-map. I don't intend to do any more to it, other than intercooler venting for the summer, as the insurance went up by a couple of hundred quid (as did the excess...... which they didn't make clear until I was actually about to pay for it...)

-By the way, it's immediately obvious that the car isn't standard as the turbo spins up very quickly (probably increasing wear) with almost no lag, the boost kicks in much harder and lower down than before and the mid-range torque is fantastic.

Fuel economy with a steady throttle at less than ~3200rpm is possibly improved over standard , but 'you don't get owt for nowt' so flooring it will see ~5mpg on the current consumption display! My average is around 33mpg with a mix of motorway and town driving.

I reckon it was worth doing, it unlocks the potential of the car, which, in my opinion, doesn't really make the most of the turbo in standard form.

just drive to jabba, they are the *mutts* at this. driven a few hundred miles in mate's golf 1.8T and it's *ballistic*. craps on a TT 225 in a straight line, and i've not met anything that'll keep up with it and this includes scoobies...

craps on a TT 225 in a straight line

I've no proof of that but, having driven a mate's TT 225 around a car park yesterday, my car definitely has a sharper throttle response and a quicker turbo spool-up.

i've not met anything that'll keep up with it and this includes scoobies...

that may be a tad:) optimistic....

To get 230ish bhp you'll need more than a remap. Plenty of tuners about
