Bulb out warning when ignition key inserted.

Featured Replies

A problem seems to be evolving with my Fabia.

It now seems to present itself permanently.

1) Turn on ignition but do not start the engine.

2) After 3-5 seconds, the bulb out warning light appears on the dash together with the audible cheeeeep.

There do not appear to be bulbs out. I suspect the brake light switch as it has presented itself twice, after braking, slowing down for junctions.

Is this something that can be scanned by free VCDS-lite?

I had a similar problem. Turned out to be the rear bulb holder.

I've seen similar issues on other cars too; The sprung contact may be just loose enough to upset the resistivity measurement that triggers the BITE.

I have checked all of the lights I could think of. Removed the bulb carriers from the clusters and left them in the boot with the seats down so I could check the brake lights too.

removed, refitted every bulb in the rear clusters.

Today I found one numberplate bulb out. But that shouldn't present unless the lights are on.

Weirdly, the warning goes out if I drive around with the lights on but re-presents the problem if I turn the lights off.

Beginning to think it's an earth or wiring issue.

@vindaloo - Next thought would be a dry solder joint; do you have a connectivity or resistivity tester? (owned, or borrowed from work)
