Sidelight wiring diagram

Featured Replies

Hi all

My N/S sidelight has stopped working, there is no power at the plug but power at the headlights switch and the fuse.

I was wondering if anybody had a wiring diagram for the sidelight circuit as I need to know where to go next. Can't find one online and halfords don't have a Haynes manual so I will have to buy one online which will take a few days to get here and I was hoping to get it sorted in the next couple of days.

So if anyone could post a photo of one or a link I would really appreciate it thanks.

Assuming the car doesn't have the bulb warning failure module, it's just grey/black wire from fuse 34 to a white 11-way connector (pin 7) deep up under the driver's side dash, then from the other side of there, in the water box area behind the wiper motor, direct to the bulb holder, again grey/black.

There is another connection up under the dash between fuse and white connector, probably something to do with the parking light function when you leave the car with the indicator stalk up/down.

Thanks for the info :) mine has a bulb warning failure for the headlights but not the side lights. Should have said it is a 2003 vrs. The rear n/s sidelight works so I don't think it will be the parking light connection but I will check it over anyway.

Do I need to remove anything to get to the 11 way connector or the parking light connector?

The parking light connection is a wire-splice within the loom, I think rather than a connector as such. The white 11-way is fairly horrible to access. It's sort of roughly behind the instrument cluster, but I can't remember if there's any access by removing that. Someone else hopefully knows.

I'll have another look at the wiring diags after lunch taking into account what you've said about bulb failure module.

Definitely no access via the cluster, just checked on my Polo.

The wiring is still the same with bulb failure module, as far as the sidelight is concerned.

No idea how you get to the 11-way connector with all the stuff that's in the way.  Sorry.

There are some pics of the groups of connectors in tech1e's project thread, and I think the white connector in question features heavily (think it may be involved with cruise control wiring too). No wide shots showing where it is relative to other stuff, but imagine going straight through the relay panel and keep going 'til you hit the inside of the firewall.

Probably a better bet to go from the other side, as the loom's much more likely to have sustained damage in the engine bay than in the cabin anyway, I think.

I've got a copy of wiring diagram, but I'd suggest that it might break copyright to post on open forum, and I can't find a way to send it via PM. But I'd suggest that posts by Wino give more info than the diagram. However, if someone can let me into the secret of how to add attachments to a PM, i'll send it.

I posted all the Haynes wiring diagrams the other day, including the sidelights.

Hadn't spotted that, but  likewise I tried, and would have stuck them up on forum, except for that I thought this was breach of copyright, and against forum rules.
