Skoda fabia 55 plate to 2003

so im having this engine issue with my skoda fabia 1.2 reg (ae55kmf) been thinking to gett another engine i found some whitch is 2003 and mechanic says that there might be some issues with swaping becouse engine is a little older type so could someone tell me what to do, should we try to buy/fit that model or it doesnt even worth to try. hopefully u could undertand what i mean.
