Dogbone large bush issue

Featured Replies

Hello fellas,

Replaced lower engine mount alias dogbone (new/aftermarket/Hutchinson) on my petrol Fabia.

Aligned it correctly (engine max far away to front / tighten 2 small screws in oval bores).

Unlucky, gear change still is jerky (just like it was before, with OEM half-worn large bush).

Took a look underside, when engine is idling- when kicking accel.pedal, engine moves a lot; am afraiding that this will ruin my freshly replaced exhaust flexipipe.

Lucky, no vibrations on steering wheel when idling; and before replacement- also no.

Before start blaming rest of 2 mounts (cambelt side & under accu.tray)- think, those are not main responsible ones for engine turning around it's axis; and those 2 were quite soft from beginning (hydrobushes maybe?).

Q

1.Does solid bush (for example, Powerflex yellow PFF85-650) will smoothen gear change? Engine and clutch- not tuned.

2.What rise-up of vibrations on steering wheel can be expected with solid bush? Mine is petrol engine 1.4L 16V BBZ

A little bit' for me could be acceptable- but not more, since am dynamic :-) daily driver with half of mileage through city traffic.

3.For other cars, as not-extreme-solution for dogbone large bush, there're some inserts, to be placed into existing OEM bush- to make it more stiff.

Unlucky, didn't find anything for Fabia; ideas?

Thank you in advance!

Indars

I fitted a Powerflex yellow one to my 1.4mpi but it caused horrible vibrations so I removed it and fitted a OEM one and it's now fine.

Genuine ones don't have two oval holes either.

My have; OEM ID 6Q0199851AK

Aftermarket Hutchinson bone also have 2 oval bores. That ^ black bracket with round bores looks bit' different from mine.

Hence, engine can be moved few "important" :-) mm before tigtening. But big bush looks the same.

Pos.22 for BBZ   http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/FAB/year/2007/drive_standart/453/hg_ug/199/subcategory/199020/part_id/2538516/lang/e#sec_22

Those are bad news for me.

Wasn't prepared pay legal 44 EUR for OEM bone and took Hutchinson for special price 22 EUR- maybe that's my problem? :-)

For other sensitive parts like brakes, suspension etc.I'm always choosing known good brands or OEM...smth went wrong with me...

Did yellow stuff improved gear change?

Yes the engine did not slop backwards and forwards as much.

Good.

No way back anyway > ebay 39 EUR- but got much sweeter offer from local Powerflex distributor- and ordered that yellow stuff ;-)

Was idea about red=diesel ones, too (-5 of shore vs yelllow=petrol)- but let it be...anytime can return to my aftermarket dogbone, too.

Will keep posted about impressions.

Yellow PU bush finally installed: vibrations are almost unacceptable for petrol engine / personally for me.

@TMB > pity, but you were right.

Now it feels bit' worse like good Seat Exeo 2.0 TDI of my friend!

On other hand, GEAR CHANGE IS SO GOOD now!

Didn't expected that PU bush can make such a massive positive difference!

Will wait few months- maybe (??) bush will settle down a bit'.

Because at this moment didn't decided for myself- to leave PU bush or return to Std.

If Std, then will try to fill half of rubber bush with window glue- to reduce engine jumping front and hold vibrations in acceptable level.

Yes the gearchange was better on mine too but hated the vibrations.
