Silver Roof Rails Probs ?

Featured Replies

Away on hols at the moment. Went to the car yesterday morning and in the shade noticed the roof rails had what looked like a white mottled film on them. Both the same.

Thought that's weird but the car was parked on a sea road the day before and wondered if it was just sea spray. Bit of spit and rubbing didn't seem to move it.

Checked again later that day and it seemed to have vanished... But it hadn't it just appears to be hard to see in bright light.

Now I've never noticed this before.... but now I know about it ...

I know people have had similar problems with the silver window surrounds with Skoda  saying the cause is caustic cleaning products.

Now if you knew me and how I clean, treat my cars you would know that's not going to happen. The only only other times the car has been cleaned was by the dealer because I forgot to tell them not to !

So.... Anyone else have this ? If so does a mild polish help say with Autosol ? I'm not back till Saturday so can't try anything...

If not then I hope it's not going to be a case of Skoda saying it's something I've done because that just won't 'Wash' with me !

I used to get this on my Leon.  Water marks was my diagnosis.

I'd just give mine a good spritz with a QD spray and then rub with a plush MF cloth, always came out.

Excellent news thanks for that. Give it a go when I get home :-)

Also I use Autoglym fast spray or fast glass with a dry microfiber cloth.  Give it a good rub should get it off..

However my old S2s roof bars went milky but this was caused by the lacquer failing and if water gets in.. It's game over.
