Hi guys,

 

Was just driving along and back wheel started making a noise like a seized brake - scraping sound.  Stopped the car and found a strip of metal loose behind the wheel (see attached photos).  What is this? Is it safe to drive the car to the garage to get it checked out?  The strip looks heavily corroded/ in a bad way.

It's part of the dust guard that sits behind the disk. They often corrode and fall to bits. I would check that there are no more bits ready to come off. You'll be fine without it.
