Integra Type R Vs. Octavia - A comparison.

Featured Replies

It is well known on here that I'm for ever going on about how great Integra Type R's are. Infact it came up today in a thread about Octavias.

This evening, on the entry slip rpoad of the A5 dual carriageway I was approaching the entry onto the carriageway and a JDM ITR went past, we were both doing about 60mph and I pulled out behind him then straight away pulled into lane 2 to pass.

It was at this point I heard the VTEC scream from the 4" exhaust. I too had just pushed the loud pedal to pass him.

Without making this sound like a race, I was very very impressed with the Octavia, the two cars were very very evenly matched in this kind of situation. I would even suggest that the Octavia was pulling past, albeit very gradually.

If this was a racing story I'd be bragging about it but, this is purely an observation/comparision between a car I used to own and the one I do now - honest.

Octavia has a bit more bhp and weight, but it has a significant torque advantage probably. My mates chipped 1.8T FR Ibiza can pull ahead slightly of my Clio and theres not much performance difference between a Clio and an ITR, but they are quite similar in as much as they are both naturally aspirated, so this doesnt surprise me.

ITR  Love 'em

Interesting, but car performance is often closer than you realise. To completely burn-off/leave for dead/blow into the weeds another car you need a hell of a lot more grunt or much less weight....

I was once a passenger in a (Canadian) Integra. I can't remember if it was a type R, but it was revvy and fast. It was very firmly sprung, but was very small inside. I prefer my Octavia :)

As an aside:

Another guest at a wedding I was at at the weekend came up to me and said he'd been asking around and if the Skoda outside was mine. He said he thought the vRS' were great cars. I'm amazed at the response it gets, considering it's basically a cheap family car with a turbo'd engine.

Love the 'Teg- awesome car! VTECs are occasionally let down by lack of torque though. I slaughtered a Teg Type-R in my first Corrado VR6 once. Think he was caught in the wrong gear, and boy it showed! He was so annoyed that he overtook me much later on (race over) and started throwing rubbish at me! Idiot.

I was badly beaten once in my Civic VTI by a Polo TDI...

Nicley put Goochie.

Friend at work's brother in law is a car importer (based in Derbyshire ) and she gets to drive all the cars from Southampton docks to his house for him. She recently got him to source her a JDM Teg Type R so I volunteered to pilot her 240bhp JDM Scooby WRX back from the docks for her. The Scooby could easily keep with it and had I known where we were going, I could have easily overtaken, but the thing that really impressed was the Teg's agililty through the twisties, especially considering it's a FWD car. Maybe I can tempt her to let me have a drive of it ;)

You should be a lawyer:rofl:

I have observed many cars getting smaller in my rear view mirror.Res ipsa loquitur(all 1.4's though)

Been teasing myself looking at JDM DC2 ITRs  Would love a DC5 too. If I needed a car just for me an ITR would be first on the list :D

They actually have a very good sized boot

In my standard fabia, i took on a ITR old shape, and i have never had my *** handed too me in quite the way that did. Every 10ft of progress i was making he was making 20 yards more - i have no doubt it was modded heavily as i heard the damn thing hit the limiter in 4th and change to 5th and go on pulling away....................

Awesome car indeed !

He was gaining on you at a rate of 20 yards for every 3 yards you moved?

He must have been travelling at light speed ;)

Having recently moved to near Litchfield - I'm gutted to find Litchfield imports are not in Litchfield :(

The nice Mr Litchfield was doing the sales pitch to any takers for the Racing Type-R at the Rally Day at Castle Coombe a year or so back.... test drive? A couple of laps of the track  I think he sold quite a few that day ;)

I think as long as you know a bit about the cars and sound enthusiastic he'll do his best to sell you something ;) I also saw a couple of their cars being tweaked when I was at Powerstation :D
