Engine Management Light..... Code P2454

Featured Replies

Got in the car this morning and it started fine but just as i was about to drive away I noticed the engine management light had stayed on. Tried turning the car off a couple of times and restarting it but the light stayed on each time.

So this evening I called round at a friend and we had a scan for codes and it came back with the following codes....

Confirmed - P2454 DPF Pressure Sensor "A" Circuit Low

Pending - P2453 DPF Pressure Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance & 12002 DPF Pressure Sensor

We didn't clear the codes as far as we were aware but when I started the car afterwards the EML light no longer came on and hasn't been on since.

Am I right in thinking it's either an intermittent fault that has cleared itself at present or that we have inadvertently cleared the codes and the fault was just a blip and the EML light had stayed on as a precaution till the codes have been cleared.

Also did a search for those particular codes and people always seem to say the glow plugs light flashes and the DPF light comes on with these fault codes whereas I just had the EML lit and nothing else.

Very common problem.

Google 'VAG G450'.

The DPF G450 differential pressure sensor is a weak point and will invariably rear it's ugly head on most VAG diesels at some point during their life.

An EML light without the flashing glowplug is normal...

Yeah I saw that but thought it meant the dpf warning light rather than EML light.

So looking to be either an intermittent fault or a one off blip and the code iis locked in till cleared and we cleared the codes by accident.... I'm assuming that if we had cleared the codes and the fault was still there the EML light would have just cone back in again straight after?

I'll give my usual VAG independent a call tomorrow to see when they can get it looked at...... Although might see how it behaves over the weekend when i use it to get to work and back each day (25 miles each way on the motorway) and then call in and speak to them in person on Monday.

I've had the G450 go on two Skoda's, albeit Octavia's.

Both were initially intermittent (on and off via the ignition on one, flickering on the other) and both showed the EML rather than the glowplug or DPF light.

Once the fault has occurred once it is highly likely it will come back, might be days, could be months.

Be aware that if the sensor malfunctions it doesn't necessarily always result in an on-dash warning. If the sensor is malfunctioning the DPF won't be regenerating properly.

Don't ignore it would be my advice, an £80 sensor plus fitting is always a preferred option vs. a clogged DPF.

I'll get in touch with my guys to get it sorted but will still use it to get to work for the next three days. Unless the situation worsens of course.

Don't forget it needs adaptation too with VCDS

Yeah I was going to mention that when I took it in.

Update time....... A fellow member did a VCDS scan on the car back in July a couple of weeks after i originally posted this topic and it confirmed that the sensor had failed then recovered so we cleared the codes out of the system. The car then went down to Devon for our holidays and then back up to Sheffield without any further issue before the EML light came back on again last Thursday afternoon. I've not had to use the car over the weekend but did a quick code pull again myself and it was the same sensor fault codes. I've been down to my usual VAG specialist this morning and he is going to replace the sensor and code it / calibrate it tomorrow which he says will only take them an hour or two to do so going to leave it with them late morning for a couple of hours whilst me and the little lad get some lunch.

£121 all in.

Hey guys so i had this light on for a while and when i checked i had the p2454 code. So mechanic said it might be dpf and might need to change it or it might be just the sensor so i wana change the sensor as i have read on here some had same issues and this helped... just wanna ask where can i get the sensor and which one it is... also what do i need to do after i change the sensor as i know you have to code it with VAG thanks...

I'd say it was just the sensor..... As above it's a quick job to replace and code the new sensor to the car. And at around  £120 all in is a hell of a lot cheaper than replacing the DPF.
