Cascade failure starting with wipers

Featured Replies

Hello,

Found your forum through Google by trying to figure out a weird problem I ran into today with my dad's Scoda Octavia -10.

It started with wipers going nonfunctional(they work again now).

Next problem that arose is unable to get the car to lock via central locking, or at all. Keyfob functions and sends signals fine, the central locking motors work, I think, as the unlocking will still make it click. The in-car door lock button does nothing either, other than the unlock whir and click. Trying to lock the car with the key only locks the driver side door, so at the moment I am unable to lock the back doors as they don't have any mechanical way to do so apparently.

Checked all the fuses, they're fine. I tried disconnecting the battery for a while, but that only brought in more problems, the power steering light(yellow) lights up, and the ECS/TCS lights up.

Going to take the car to an authorized repair shop on Monday, but figured I'd ask here if this is something "easy" I can fix to make these problems go away.

Thanks in advance! Any tips on what might have gone awry are appreciated.

Warning lights on the dash will disappear once the car's been driven in a straight line for a while. It's normal. Have you had the car scanned for faults, as this will tell you more about what's going on. Someone local to you with VCDS will be cheaper than a garage or main dealers for a diagnostic scan. Post your location and maybe someone will volunteer, or check the user locations on this map.

Does the car drive fine? No warning lights on dash?

Take a look in the car drivers manual which says:

Rear door: Emergency locking of the rear doors

An emergency locking mechanism is located on the rear side of the doors which have no locking cylinder; it is only visible after opening the door.

Locking

  • –  Remove the panel A fig. 14.

  • –  Insert the key into the opening under the panel and press the stopping lever B as far as the stop toward the inside. Re-insert the panel.

After closing the door, you can no longer open it from outside. The door can be unlocked from the inside by pulling on the door handle again, and then opened from the outside.

Sorry the picture Fig 14 doesn't copy over but you should find it in the book or just take a look at the door. Don't confuse it with door child locks adjacent.

if you don't have the drivers manual then you can download a PDF copy from the sticky thread above these posts.

I would also check your battery voltage and connections as wirring and clicking will occur if the battery cannot support the load.

Aye, drives fine, and as Rustynuts said, the warning lights did indeed turn off after driving the car for a while, now it's only the central locking not doing any locking.

check the battery in the key fob and replace

also a low voltage off your(Main) battery can make the electrics do funny things, if its older than 6 years ..change it
