Exhaust advice elegance pd100

Featured Replies

Afternoon ladies and gents

Just bought number one daughter a 54 plate elegance pd100 and it has a couple of issues that I would like to look at but not sure of the best way forward.

Car has a s2000 or similar air filter fitted, unshielded and is clatty as hell so I am going to change it back to a standard box and paper filter, and that's fine.

The main problem is that it has been fitted with a turbo back straight pipe which is a horrid noise, almost sounds whiney.  I need to get rid of that pitch so I was thinking bin the exhaust and start again, unless anyone can think of any cheaper way around it.  It also hasn't been remapped...yet.

@Jaspire - The "fart box" will be doing nothing for power, and might actually increase turbo wear. Other than a full standard exhaust, is there an exhaust place that does custom systems to order in Ayrshire? (it's been decades since I'd have been interested)

Aye Ken I know a few places, although the one I used to use is closed as it turns out the guy who owned it molested children as it happens, so that's closed down.  Do you think someone will be able to modify the current straight through to sound healthier?

In terms of fitting an OEM/aftermarket one, which other models exhaust fit the pd100 do you think?  Is it the standard Fabia/Ibiza/Polo provided it is a 1.9pd engine be at least 100bhp or is it only the Fabia do we think?

Cheers

Lennie

@Jaspire - It's hard for me to be certain since I've not heard the current system, but we used to make fruity sounding (on full throttle; they were quiet enough for cruising) systems back in the day using straight pipe sleeved onto whatever right size ended and good condition/cheap silencers we could find. This is where "current experience" comes n.

Just fit a new standard system, cheapest and best option since 'performance' exhausts don't make any difference to diesels, you might actually pick up a few extra ponies and torques by returning it to standard.

Aye that's what I was thinking originally, the car needs to last her a year, before she goes back to Uni do her masters.

Would a second hand one off a smashed motor that someone is breaking fit?  There are loads of Fabia vrs/Ibiza pd130 being broken just now, and I was thinking it might be cheaper to stick one of them on if I can't find a used PD100 one?  I will call Dingbro tomorrow and price up a complete new exhaust just to check.

Thanks

£240 for a brand new one from Dingbro, so that's not happening right now.  I will have a peek at ebay and see what's what!
