Fuel economy low or just me?

It was ok I just wondered for the reasons behind the values being different on the link.

Is it worth me cleaning my MAF as an extra step to improving the running of the engine?

No, you'll break it, if it ain't broke...

Bit of an update.

Went out today and did 30 miles or so at steady speed trying to be as economical as possible on mainly 40-50mph roads and also did some stop start city driving <30mph, came back as 46mpg which wasn't too bad.

i Then decided to just pick up and fit a new maf sensor cause I thought 'why not' and was near gsf car parts Bristol anyway.

Drove home on the new maf with a mixture of gentle driving and also giving it the beans a few times and it got 53mpg which I thought was very impressive. Can't say for sure whether it was all down to the maf but I certainly didn't drive as gently on the way back.

Interestingly did a brim to brim calculation using fuelly and it said I'd managed 39.5mpg even though the long term fuel economy in the car since I fuelled up was 38 mpg. Nice surprise that it was being conservative which from what I've heard about the trip computers is slightly unusual.

On on another note the cam position sensor fault has come up so a new sensor is in order I think.

Many thanks to all who have given their input so far it's been very helpful

Good job, replace the ECT sensor as well since they drift badly as they age, they're cheap.

Sounds like a good idea, might as well I suppose considering I've rectified the other common suspects.

Just changed my ECT sensor as it was in stock at local ECP. It fitted ok however seems extremely loose in the housing. I can wobble it around lots and turn it very easily which I dont remember being able to do with the old one. Took it for a drive and doesn't seem to be leaking at all so not sure if thats just its fitment but seems a little odd.

You may have jumped out the frying pan, ECP sell terrible ****, some of their new ones are actually worse that an old one.

Removed it again and checked against old one. Exactly the same dimensions. Turns out the old washer was slightly larger in diameter allowing a more snug fit. Just driven 80 miles and checked no leaks or loss of coolant so I'm guessing its ok just a 'looser' fit than the OEM one.

Next thing to do is change the sump due to trying to drain oil today and sump plug just spinning wont come out.

Looks fairly straightforward just a case of remove old bolts then pry it off gently. Reseal new sump and put bolts back in.

Im sure there will be something along the way which goes wrong so expect another post on here :)
