Has anyone sold a MK3 vRS Privately?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

my time with the vRS is coming to an end, I've got a Golf GTI coming for a September registration so it decision time on what to do on the PCP.

im considering selling the vRS privately but this of course means settling the finance at some point or other before the car can be handed to a new buyer.

Has anyone sold a mk3 vRS privately yet? Was there a lot of interest? A quick look at autotrader suggests that I could make a profit buying the car outright and then selling on but I can't afford to get stuck with the car with the GTI on its way.

my other option is to VT the agreement but this will cost me a few quid plus more if they charge for excess mileage (around 4K miles over at this minute).

Also get prices from we buy any car and Evans Halshaw.

They will settle the finance and give you the balance.

With a few payments to go WBAC and EH are below settlement figure for the finance so I'm afraid that's not an option.

Theres a big difference between those offers though and the lowest priced vRS with comparable spec and mileage on autotrader though which is what's tempting me to try a private sale

Those adverts will be 'Asking Prices' though so someone maybe with a dream of getting enough from the sale to do as you are doing.

?

Are they selling at the prices you see? Are those private sellers Asking Prices or Dealers / Traders?

Yes. I sold mine. Sold to the first caller on day one for near the asking price. All I did was look at what WBAC were offering (£10,400) then looked at dealer prices (£14,00). So, stuck it up for £12,500 and away it went. Be realistic with the asking price and it'll go no problem.  Don't be a dreamer like some ads I saw. This was in April I sold.

Why not just put it up on autotrader then and see what happens? Price it well and describe it accurately and it should sell.

Worst comes to the worst... You don't sell it and you just hand it back. This is assuming your PCP doesn't end next week and you have time to do it.

I've only just started looking at the autotrader sales so i can't say for sure they are selling at the prices.

SC03OTT, what was the spec of your vRS?

I'll likely advertise the car during august, I have a week in Cornwall before then where I can't afford to do without it but following that I will give it a go.

Autotrader will give you a suggested price once you enter your number plate & mileage. That's a good starting point.

In in my experience they usually get quite close to the right price for a reasonably quick sale. If you push the price higher, it may take longer.....

Good luck!

Spec was:

2014 '14' vRS manual, hatch

candy white

38k miles

black pack

sunset glass

full winter pack

i advertised it on another forum as well as autotrader. I'll see if I can PDF the ad later tonight.

SC03OTT, my car has an almost identical spec to yours but I have the canton sound system too.

mileage will be 33k by the time it's advertised.

did you settle the finance in advance of advertising it or as it sold?

No, I got the buyer to settle and then bank transfer me the difference. He was absolutely fine about it and had done it in the past. I didn't mention it in the ad though. I figured it'd be easier to discuss how the process worked than potentially scaring buyers away.

Ok. Hopefully a PDF of my ad is now attached for your viewing pleasure.

Thanks Scott, see yours was actually a petrol rather than diesel like mine.  Very few petrols available so I can see why yours will have gone so quickly.

Ill advertise as soon as I return from holiday at the end of the month, and hope to get any offer better than the settlement figure.

Off topic, I'm a member of cliosport too, my car history is largely RenaultSport before the vRS (valver, 172, 225,197, 182), what did you have?

Nothing spectacular. 1.2 Clio, Jetta TDI, Focus ST 2.5T then that vRS before my current one.

You could also try tootle.co.uk - when I sold my MK2 diesel vrs they offered £1k more than WBAC and about £500 less than what I was hoping for private. Seemed reasonable considering speed and ease of transaction.
