Driving overseas and headlights

Featured Replies

Good morning.  I am taking my SEL Exec 150 Estate through Spain to Portugal this summer (via the Plymouth - Santander ferry..).  Does any one know if the car is clever enough to kow it is overseas and auto switch the headlights?  My old Yeti had a function in settings where you could do this, but I can't seem to find one in the Superb.

Thanks

There is an option in the lighting menu.

You have bi-xenon headlamps so they will auto-switch to driving on the right and back to driving on the left when you return. If not immediately, then very soon after arriving. Thereafter every time you turn on the ignition, whilst on the continent, you will get a brief message appear on the maxi-dot display that the lights are set for driving on the right.

If you have Dynamic/Smart Light Assist then that will revert to standard Light Assist. The manual also says AFS is disabled, but I found at night my lights were still adjusting the headlight on bends.

There is an option to manually select/deselect "driving on the right" in the infotainment's Car->Settings->Lights menu (that's on a MY16) but you shouldn't need to use it.

In addition...

If you have ACC then it will also automatically adapt.

If you have Traffic Sign Recognition it will show (among others) the speed limit signs in kmh.

On my continental visits, whilst waiting to board at the terminal, I manually switch the clock to GMT+1 (there's no automatic for that). I also switch values from miles to kilometres and mph to kmh.

Thank you.  I'll have another look for the option, but your reply is really useful.  Looking forward to taking the car on some long open roads - now if I can just get the 3 boys in the back to stay quiet....

I found that I had to pull over and stop for the lights to automatically switch over. Once out of the train (channel tunnel) it needed to get a GPS fix to know it was in Continental Europe.

Once it was fixed, it wouldn't flick the lights to the other side until the car came to a halt. You can actually see them switch to the other side when the car is stationary.

I have a MY16 SE L Exec with Bi-Xenon lights.
