Wing Mirror Advice

Featured Replies

I was wondering if someone can help me. Some Muppet hit my wing mirror while I was parked. Good news is the wing mirror it self is not damaged in any way it just has this mark on it. I've tried to rub it off with some water etc it doesn't seem to come off. But at the same time it doesn't feel like a scratch either. Skoda told me to paint it will be 60 quid but surely a new cover from them would be alot cheaper or if there is a way to rub it out instead.20170710_172023.thumb.jpg.6610941021b1a3d5abfd6349d201f8e0.jpg

T cut or Auto Glym paint renovater might do the trick?.

  • White spirit/turpentine substitute
  • Water-soluble paint brush cleaner (the blue Polycell stuff)
  • WD40
  • Petrol
  • Brake cleaner
  • Just about any type of car polish

T-cut or Brasso as a last resort (follow up with a proper car polish as they are a fairly harsh abrasive for car paint). Not sure if the formulation has changed but they used to contain ammonia which can discolour white paint.

Machine polish would also help, but Im guessing you won't have one?

If you are really desperate good old toothpaste might be abrasive enough to shift the mark.

Tar/tree sap remover might work. Be gentle so as to preserve the paint and apply plenty of polish afterwards.

Like he says, wax over it when done

I'm pretty sure the wing mirror covers don't come body coloured but are just the base plastic and then have to be painted to match the car so not as cheap as you may think. ;)
