VRS pre face lift TFSi brake calipers

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a seized caliper, drivers side rear.

I'm not one for replacing braking parts myself anymore, just dont have the time, and being honest I dont want to go down the clean and service route for the same reason. I just want to find the parts to take along to my local fitter along with a new set of MTEC discs that are already on their way.

Does anyone know where I can get hold of a caliper online for a TFSi VRS '06, preferably in the standard red VRS finish? I seem to be able to find variants for the TDi but not the TFSi.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm more familiar with the mk2 FL but you may find there is no differentiation on TDI / TFSI vRS calipers. They can often use the same rotor and caliper.  That said, Skoda do have a habit of changing disc sizes / caliper system within the same model on the rear, so you need to confirm exactly what is on your vehicle before ordering anything.  Mine has 272mmx10mm discs with Bosch Caliper system.  The TRW calipers often used with 282mm or 286mm x12 discs.

If you want to go further, try to identify the rear caliper manufacturer (it should be either TRW or Bosch). The option code sticker in your service book or in your boot can help, assuming your brakes are still standard. Look for 1KP or 1KS/1KT.

If this is sounding too much, it maybe easier to leave it to the garage to sort out to save having the wrong parts on hand when they come to do the work.

Thanks for that. I've already spoken to Skoda and they have confirmed that my car uses the 286mm x 12mm discs on the rear (confirmed by a quick manual measuring tape inspection as well), so I assume that would be the TRW calipers. If that is the case then that is where the issue has been as I've already been looking at TRW and they only list the calipers as suitable for the TDi, but as you say that may not mean they are not correct.

I've thrown this back to the garage now, they are used to me supplying parts but I've asked them to see what they can find this time around. And of course it's being able to find them in red as well :)

I doubt very much there is any different in the TDI advertised version so long as it is TRW type.  Some of the adverts on ebay for TDI vRS rear calipers also refer to TFSI in the description text.  There are a few there and some will offer to check your part.  What I saw was expensive though, up to £199 for a single caliper, best price seems to be about £70 for no colour or around £80-£100 for red. Have a search.

Also, Big red do remanufacturing and I've bought some parts of Brakeparts before. Call them and check what options there are and make sure it lines up to your brake set up before you buy.  There are a lot of others vendors too if you do a search for replacement calipers or remanufactured calipers..
