Non of the manufacturers have had as much bad press as VW for doing the same thing

The UK media will have it tomorrow from the Reuters articles published now online.

So what's BMW's secret way of legally meeting emissions targets I wonder........there isn't anyone else left it seems.

Not a problem,VAG know how to fix it,they say!

Well there is no adblu in BMW diesels so they're not using that.

Plenty of older stories about BMW emissions being higher on the roads than in the lab but nothing seems to have moved on passed that.

I'm confused then as this indicates SCR/AdBlue from 2015 in the U.K. -

So they all meet euro6 using SCR/AdBlue now, or do some have a different method of some sort?.

The issues were that the Ad-Blue was not being used as required in the Mercs, or VW, maybe Renaults / Citroens because the Ad-Blue tank would have had to be huge. Hense the Defeat Devices / Cheats to have the Emission Reductions working only fully under testing to get EU 5 Type Approval & NoX emission results.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BlueMotion

Now the tanks are pretty big on many of the vehicles and the Ad-Blue usage manageable.

Still a PITA to fill where pumps not available at filling stations.

In the US real-world tests that exposed VW, they also tested a BMW 3 series diesel and found it to be compliant with the US regs.

.....in the same way Volvo doesn't seem to have a problem either apparently.

I'm wondering if the Mercedes 2.0 150kw version is stretching it, isn't the BMW version 135kw maximum?.

VW tried to avoid SCR.....by cheating, but Mercedes and BMW adopted it for meeting Euro6 AFAIK.

^^^

Richest nation in the world will hopefully of tested more than 1 BMW 3 series.

Volvo got a new Head of Volvo in 2010, that was Stefan Jacoby part of the VW Family man and boy.

CEO of VW USA 2007-2010 and predicted to be the new Head of VW unti passed over.

Previously worked for some vehicle manufacturers under investigation and when he left Volvo because of 'Ill health',

He became the Global Head of GM.

Small world.

His replacement as head of VW USA in 2010 is now heading UK Cycling so knows plenty about cheats.

Mercedes have been using SCR for over 10 years now - they held the patent on it initially. One of the reasons VAG cheated was because they didn't want to pay the licencing costs to Mercedes to use SCR as it would have added significantly to the cost of the cars.

But it looks like Daimler - Mercedes cheated, then Renault with Daimler engines, or is it Mercedes with Renault / Nissan engines?

Even the biggest fan boy can look at the history as is, the press from back in the time, the media spin and sometimes total untruths,

and then what happened since.

As it is it is all coming out in the wash and not just out the tail pipe.

Soap on the rope surely required for some fraudsters.

I remember one member who runs a late model Mercedes wasn't aware it used AdBlue.....it's certainly been around a long time in Mercedes here.

Lots never used ad-blue & did not need to. Euro 4 & Euro 5 for the EU was what they needed to meet, just other World Regions accepted that Euro 5 was supposedly as EU Tested, ie USA, Australia.

BlueTec & BlueMotion etc are confusing terms that Mercedes or VW used to name supposed 'Cleaner' vehicles that were not all SCR.

Didn't I read that AUDI S4 and S5 models have been suspended from sales.

Lots of Mercedes, and Smart, chassis have Renault engines, diesel and petrol..... Renault owns part of Mercedes and visa versa.

https://www.quora.com/Which-Mercedes-models-use-Renault-engine

Mercedes uses 1,5 liter (e.g. engine in A180d) and 1,6 liter (e.g. engine in C200d) Renault diesel engines. For the 1,5 liter engine, Mercedes and Renault engines are almost exactly the same. For the 1,6 liter version, Mercedes has slight modifications for more refinement and power. Mercedes offers 136HP compared to 130HP in Renault for the lead engine. Refinement is indeed perceptible. Mercedes version (OM 626) is the first passenger diesel in the world to use steel pistons.

Apart from entry level diesels in Mercedes cars, Smart - being the sibling of Renault Twingo - uses Renault engines as well. Triple turbo engine TCe 90 is just one of the shared engines. EV versions of Smart ForTwo, Cabrio and ForFour will be built in Renault’s Cleon plant as well.

The 1.5 dCi (K9K*846) engine is used on the Mercedes A, B and CLA classes (as the 82kW option). More than one hundred thousand of these engines have been sold to the Mercedes/Daimler group since 2012.

The 1.6 dCi (R9M*409) engine is used on the Mercedes C class (as the 96kW option) since 2014.
