service question

Featured Replies

picking up a used 1.2 tsi spaceback 12000 miles 1year old, when I asked about the first service I was told it was not due for another 6000 miles as it was on a variable service plan. The car comes with 1minor and 1major service included. I was thinking should I get it serviced now and move it on to a fixed 1 year 10000 miles plan as I will be driving  less than 10000 miles a year which means it could be nearly another year till it gets serviced, which to me is a long time. Any advise will be much appreciated

Welcome.

I would say that yes you should have a service done now and a Minor one ie Oil & Filter change, body check and all the visual inspection stuff.

Get it on a Fixed Service regime if your mileage suits and the Major service can be in 12 months and the  the Pollen Filter changed if you do not want that doing now.

Was this a SkodaApproved used car with Workshop Safety Checks carried out?.

There should have been a Body Check done and a report on tyres depth etc.

Did you get that?

Might be worth doing a bit of planning before you decide what to do and when. Work out when the warranty expires, then work out when to have the services done, so that the last of the free ones happen shortly before the warranty period is up.

That way, if you do your own servicing or wish to move to an independent you can do so outside the warranty period, maintaining the (otherwise costly) dealer servicing during the warranty period to save an arguments if warranty work is required.

Variable v's minor and major-

At SEAT they just skip the minor service and do the second one as part of your variable programme. This is f'ing expensive since the second service includes sod all but they charge for a major. Luckily yours are already paid for.

However, mine was on variable and the Turbo needed replacement at 26000.

Stay on annual servicing! Get it done now, and get it done in 10000/12 months.

thank for the replies, as I thought it could do with a service or at least an oil change . yes it was bought from an approved Skoda dealer and they did give it a workshop check just a shame I will have to book it in for a service for just for an oil change. maybe a call to my local Skoda dealer to see what they say as the car was not bought from them
