Booked in at Tony Banks

Featured Replies

Well, given up trying to find a stainless steel exhaust anywhere near where I live. Tried an exhaust place in Basingstoke, 40 miles away from me, which is part of the Longlife exhaust franchise system. They wanted £499.00. Another garage locally said they could make one up in a couple of days and charge, wait for it, £1500. Bloody hell, do they think we are all rich in the south of the country!!

I had already emailed Tony Banks in Leeds and they had come back with, £299. They may be a 400mile round trip for me, but as the price is so good and a lot of the members on this site recommend them, that is where I am going in August. Makes you think does it not, the big difference in price for the same exhaust and fitting depending on where you live. The old saying, shop around, is certainly the way to always go.

Couldn't fault Longlife when I had it on my Golf, as long as it's 304 grade stainless steel then you're fine. Don't think Tony Banks does this, but some companies want to have checkovers at a certain price to maintain the warranty, so that's summat to look out for. That distance is a hell of a long way round if you do have a problem, but horses for courses.

I guess it is a risk if anything goes wrong, but worth the gamble for that price. As I stated, far more expensive in the "well off south". In answer to the quality of the steel, here below is a part of the email I received from them.

OUR SYSTEMS ARE HANDBUILT FROM AIRCRAFT QUALITY T304 BRITISH STAINLESS STEEL OF  2mm GAUGE WALL THICKNESS UNLIKE OUR COMPETITORS THAT USE LOWER GRADE 409 STAINLESS STEEL FROM CHINA AND KOREA. WE ASSEMBLE ON SITE USING ONLY T.I.G. WELDERS AND ONLY USE T316 STAINLESS WELDING RODS OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY.

I've been happy with mine (a turbo back system with sports cat) and the after service has also been good.  Let us know how you get on.

Sure will. I am going for a cat back system. Not the first option which is completely silent, but the second option, mid mild sport, which is quiet on normal driving, but a good tone on acceleration. I am too dam old and do too many miles, for those other noisy options. Want it close to OEM anyway, as that might not then affect my motor insurance, as it should not be classed as a modification.

Mine is between the mid and loud.  I'm probably too old for such an exhaust but the 18 year old chav in me refuses to grow up!:D

As for insurance, it will be classed as a modification. Anything other than standard and they'll want to know.  I've declared everything on my insurance and it hasn't made too much difference to the premium. It's best to let them know but then again, I know a few people who don't declare anything and it doesn't bother them at all.

In my job, I have to be as responsible as possible, so I will declare it. Mind you, I declared the Bilstein B8 shocks I had fitted and because I did not lower the car, they did not mind.
