Something I didn't expect to hear

Featured Replies

As mentioned in another thread our Fabia is at the dealers having some warranty work done. Dealer has been very good very pleased with the service provided, no complaints. The Infotainment unit in the dash has had to be replaced, and when I checked this afternoon they needed to keep the car an extra day because and I quote " We are waiting for a test plan from Skoda UK". I never expected to hear an IT excuse for a car repair!

It seems that the re-coding of the new infotainment unit is quite complicated, the dealer has to  get a car specific test plan form Skoda in order to check that the re-coding is correct. I must admit I though it would just be unplug, remove, fit and plug back in.

I'm curious to see if we get the latest Bolero unit with Smartlink as being an early Mk3 the original only had Mirrorlink.

I hope you do better than what happened with my wife's Smart Fortwo.  After the car had been in the garage for 26 days with a head unit fault the dealer principal told us:

"The infotainment systems are coded to a specific car, so we can't pull one out of a new car to replace your faulty one - it wouldn't work! Mercedes need to supply a replacement system which has been custom coded to your car. Mercedes don't seem to have the procedures in place to do this quickly or easily, hence the long delay."

After 36 days we got the car back.  Someone from Mercedes authorised the garage to use the head unit off a new car that was in the showroom and found a solution to the hitherto insurmountable code problem.

She drives a Polo now!

Seems we faired better ffox, the Fabia is back all systems working, interestingly the Stop/Start has started to work again, so I'm wondering if the fault on the Infotainment unit as affecting the Stop/Start.

My Fabia SEL is April 2015 iirc the newer version of Bolero relies on modifications to the vehicle when it is on the production line. If you do get an all singing new version of the Bolero please let me know as the old version with Mirrorlink is useless and should never have been installed till it was fit for purpose. Joe

Sadly I didn't, I'm not entirely sure what was replaced, whether it was the actual head-unit with screen and knobs or a black box that the provides data to the screen etc. Very happy with service from Skoda  dealership, they didn't supply the car new as we bought it at 12 months old from a car supermarket.

The newer units in the Fabia are in 2 separate parts- a control box behind the glove box and the screen, which is just a monitor. Kind of like if you have a desktop PC with the monitor, keyboard, and mouse all on the desk, with the actual computer box hidden away in the desk. I think the basic 'Blues' radio is just a radio in the dash though, but we don't get it here in the UK! The same goes for the Octavia III, newer Rapids, Superb III, etc etc.
