1.6 TDI 105 TURBO BOOST FAULT

Featured Replies

Yesterday, on the motorway, went to accelerate and power dropped away followed by a whining noise from engine bay and flashing orange coil sign on the dash. Car was in limp mode and as not far from home and no safe place to stop I continued short distance home.

Called AA out who read out code P029900 boost pressure control, and were not convinced of the turbo actuator function and said whine was coming from Turbo/Actuator.

Car is 63 reg , under 4 years old with only 33K miles , full Skoda service history.

I've read lots of stuff on web but nothing exactly the same.

Any one else experienced the same, or any ideas?

Now it's officially out of warranty, am I best to go to local garage, turbo specialist or back to main dealer?

I had a turbo failure on my Octavia mk2 and I lost all power like you did. However being an old car it didnt produce any fault codes. Only turbo failure when it was plugged into the AA`s laptop.

Considering your car`s mileage and history, i`d go back to your dealer in the first instance and see if some good will is on offer because a turbo replacement is NOT cheap.

+1 for above

Update:

Well after looking at internet car parts replacement turbo material only prices ( min £750 with return of faulty unit)  I did get the car to limp back into Skoda Agent/Dealer.

After a couple of days of assessment and discussion with Skoda UK, they got agreement to replace the Turbo at Labour only cost.

Due to low mileage and regular servicing with them, the material would be supplied for free.

Apparently the Turbo part alone would have been £1200 and Labour (with VAT) on top £754.

Now fixed and running like it did before.  Could have been a lot worse!
