Tyre constantly going flat!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Long story short, changed tyre about 6 months ago due to low tread, after was constantly losing pressure, assumed a puncture but damaged the tyre driving it near on flat as spare was flat.  So another tyre fitted, again constantly losing pressure, maybe putting air in every two week or so, thought it was a puncture again so recently changed yet again, now it's needing air every 2/3 days..

Is this possibly a bent alloy? I watched the last tyre been sorted and it was put in the various machines they do when changing a tyre.. I can't get round why it's the same wheel everytime, this was 2 different tyre places also

More than likely it’s down to corrosion on the inside of the wheel, the only true way to seal it is to refurbish the wheel (if it’s corroded around the valve seat then they can put some gunk over the valve to help seal it but it’s not the best solution)

Makes sense that actually as the first time the valve was knackered and wouldn't take air in..

To be honest every alloy is in a bad state, general corrosion and the missus using that awful sound of alloy hitting curb as some sort of parking sensor, which is part of the reason why I was looking into just getting some black steel wheels, I was looking at these

But the offset and central bore sizes make me worry as no idea what's right one

You need 57.1mm centre bore,

not sure of the offset on a Fabia but if you have a spare wheel it will be stamped into the outside face between the bolt holes.

If the tyres are safe and the valves OK then let the tyres down and inflate with 1/2 a can of Tyre Weld or some other brand and then inflate fully and drive it.

Usually that sorts it out until you can get better wheels.

Ones the correct size and centre bore would be a smart idea.

Brilliant thanks for the help guys.. I'll check the spare but sure they are 5 X 100... What does offset and centre bore actually mean though? And is there going to be a set tyre size for them because the site doesn't seem to have a link to what tyres would go on each wheel

What tyres are on the car now size wise and are they going on the new rims if you get any?

What Fabia do you have?

Bore is the hole in the middle of the wheel, offset how they sit out from where they sit on the face of the Hub or Brake Drum.

It's the 16" ones that come on the Fabia 3.. the steel wheels I'm looking at are 14/15" so won't be fitting on that I will have to get new tyres on them

Might be simpler getting a used spare off a well known auction site... Keep the alloys, just change the dodge one!

Hi,

I have had the same problem on my VRS and it seems to have seen cured by the tyre fitters remounting the tyre on the rim and cleaning around the tyre vale seat. Corrosion was thought to be the blame. There have been no further pressure problems after several months.

Most likely the wheel has become porous so as others have already it needs a refurb. Until you do this tyre weld will fix it.

Tried the tyre weld stuff.. seems to have done the job!! Awesome advice guys thank you!!
