Bluetooth > Bolero Retrofit - North East

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm after any recommendations in the North East for someone who would retrofit a genuine VAG Bluetooth kit to my 2011 Superb fitted with a Bolero.

The current Nokia hands-free kit has served well since the car was new (fitted by the Skoda dealer) but is now dying and in need of replacement.

My options seem to be:

1) Replace the Nokia system with a new Parrot version.

2) Fit the genuine VAG Bluetooth system.

3) Buy and fit a used Amundsen with Bluetooth already fitted.

Option 1 will be the easiest, just drop the car off at an audio specialist, job done. Not the cleanest system on the dash though.

Option 2 is the preferred option but I don't want to fit it myself. Finding someone willing to fit it with the capability to code it (VCDS) I'm guessing is going to be problematic.

Kit: http://www.carsystems.pl/bluetooth-installation-kit-plug-play-for-7p6-and-5k0-module-foam-cover,id125.html

Installation Guide: http://www.carsystems.home.pl/instrukcje/bluetooth golf VI.pdf

Option 3 gets me sat nav too but the head units are still quite pricey and there is still a microphone and antenna to fit plus coding.

Searching on here revealed a good source for the genuine Bluetooth kit, so if I can find someone to fit it as well as code it close to home/work then this is what I'll do.

Any ideas!?

I fitted one to my son in laws Golf Mk5 a couple of weeks ago, and to be honest it only took about an hour, then a bit of coding with vcds and all done. It's really not hard if you have a bit of time and a couple of essential tools (Torx set, trim removal tools, VCDS), and it's mostly just the time stringing the wires about. You should have a go yourself, it's one of the easier retrofits.

Failing that, an Amundsen Plus might be just as easy, if not easier as it simplifies the wiring quite a bit.

Thanks Rusty, I'm pretty handy, I service the car myself, I'm just not a fan of internal trim. I needed to remove the A pillar to hardwire a dashcam a few years ago, it was a sod to remove and almost as bad to refit.

Headlining and the door aperture might be a broken plastic clip too far, plus I don't have VCDS.

I once removed the head unit on an older car and managed to scratch the silver dash trim with the connectors whilst unplugging it. I had to look at those scratches for several years :D

The Amundsen+ did cross my mind, but checking online they are fetching over £500.

I'm happy to pay the going rate, it's just finding someone I can trust who will be willing to fit a genuine kit and has access to VCDS. A tall order I suspect.

Amundsen + can be had for about £300 usually, less if you're prepared to wait and shop about.

As for the trim removal we didn't remove anything other than the roof light to fit the mike, the head unit to connect the Bluetooth loom, and one side of the centre console. The wires were just tucked under the door rubber out of site.

A local VAG specialist has offered to source (TPS) the full Bluetooth kit and fit and code it for me for £190.

This can't be right as I don't have the Bluetooth module under the drivers seat. The full retrofit kit alone is over €300.

@langers2k, can I please pick your brain? Do you know how I can be sure of the correct part numbers needed? Would Elsawin help me?

Is this likely to be what I need?

Bluetooth Module: 3C8035730E

Bluetooth Mic: 3B0035711B

Foam Cover: 1K0919737M

GSM Antenna: ?

Plug & Play Wiring: ?

I think the garage have quoted assuming the module is already fitted. They had the car today to check the 'module' was suitable and confirmed that it was.

A Parrot kit is £249 fitted which I think is going to be hard to beat.

@Rustynuts did the one that you fitted to the Golf include the under-seat module?

I bought a second hand module from Ebay for £30 and the loom from China for £25. Foam cover I picked up for a tenner on Ebay, didn't need the GSM antenna (only about £8 on Ebay anyway).

Shopping carefully will get you some bargains. Shopping at Carsystems will not be good for your wallet mate.

It'll mostly depend what features you actually want, the most obvious ones are:

- A2DP (advanced audio distribution profile), allows you to play music on your phone via the car speakers

- HFP (hands free protocol), allows you to make/receive calls, needs no GSM antenna

- rSAP (remote sim access protocol), effectively removes the SIM card from your phone and used a GSM antenna in the car to improve signal. The downside is you'll lose all SMS/data functionality on your phone

- WiFi hotspot, this will only work when using an rSAP connected phone, it allows your phone and other devices online - 3G only (no 2G/4G support)

I found the rSAP was OK, but there is no 4G support and if you are using data services on your phone (via the WiFi hotspot function) it can be hit and miss depending on mobile signal. It also needs a decent rSAP implementation on your phone.

HFP has been far more reliable and also allows data at whatever speed your phone supports. This does mean you'll lose out on SMS display in the maxidot.

As for BT part numbers, these are the most popular options and all should support HFP and A2DP:

- 3C8 035 730 A/B/C support rSAP but no WiFi hotspot

- 3C8 035 730 D/E support rSAP and WiFi hotspot

- 7P6 035 730 J+ have no rSAP support

Assuming this is the Superb I've seen scans for, your Bolero is a 3T0 035 156 G which should be a Delphi unit. This should avoid the corrupt phonebook issue that affects cars Blaupunkt based Bolero headunits fitted, this might be Octavia specific as I know the Superb Bolero is a different shape so I don't know if any had Blaupunkt based units.

I'm also not sure if you'll get track information or the ability to skip tracks when using A2DP - I believe it's dependant on both the headunit and BT module as my RNS-310 couldn't do it but my RNS-510 can with the same BT module.

Personally, I would be looking at the 3C8 D/E or 7P6 J+ depending if you want/need rSAP support.

I've done a few retrofits myself (mine, my mums, my wife's and also for a Briskoda Facebook member, and as said it's actually quite straight forward. Instead of running the cables across the dash and down underneath the door, I ran down to the footwell and along the left side under the drivers seat. Only thing then is to take A pillar trim off for mic and aerial if rsap - unless you replace roof aerial for rsap variant.

As Rustynuts said, buy a second hand module off fleabay  and best place for the kit I found was Carsystems (with the foam insert for installing under your drivers seat) - then it depends if you want rSAP or not (not supported by iPhone and as you may/may not be aware D/E wifi rSAP modules have reported issues with the Three network - A/B/C work flawlessly).

I've never quite understood what actually caused that issue.

When I was on three, I used both D and E rev modules with rSAP/WiFi hotspot enabled and never had a problem :/

We've never got to the bottom of it either. My dad tried both the D & E and it kept spitting rSAP and reverting back to HFP. Tried on my phone and my mums (both Three) and the same result. Connected my wifes EE and it worked perfectly. :wondering:

Nice one lads, thanks!

I'm a simple bloke, I'm only looking to make hands free phone calls, no need for streaming music or WiFi hotspots.

Looks like HFP would suit me perfectly. I appreciate the confirmation on my Bolero Rob (yes its the same Superb - minus its LED tail lights!) and the choice of Bluetooth module part numbers. A look through eBay suggests I'm looking at a minimum of £150, plus the foam and the metal bracket needed...

If the genuine Skoda kit could be had for the same or a little more than the Parrot MKi9100 then it would have been a no-brainer, as it happens by the time I've added an hours labour at the VAG Specialist (VCDS) I'm knocking on towards £300.

Appreciate the help and advice!

I tried sending you a message, but you're not accepting them apparently...
