rear door internal panel removal

Featured Replies

installing a reversing camera but struggling to get the internal panel off the rear door

I have the diagram, guessing you start trying to pop it off from where I've put the arrow as the clips look closest to the edge, but just cant get it to shift

has anyone taken it off and has any hints/suggestions.

many thanks

;)

I removed one from an Octavia estate car some years ago, looks like the same sort of fixing and I remember that the first thing to do was to remove the rubber pull strap and fitting. Then it was a case of carefully easing off the clips, once the first one 'gives' then it is much easier as you can get your hand underneath and ease off the next clip and so on. I remember it required a fair degree of force to get the clips out, luckily none broke. I am sure another Briskodian will have done this on a Yeti and can give you first hand advice.

I have taken mine off and it is exactly as Expatman says.  Take the pull handle off first, then you have to ease the first clip out, which is pretty stiff.  I used a thin plastic wedge and started on the near side edge; the first eventually popped, making it easier to get under the panel and pop the others off.

that's really useful thanks weasley,

will attack the nearside top first and hope for the best.

Just posted for info on this very same thing on the ICE fourm - be interested to know what camera you've purchased and whether it will fit a Columbus unit

success

improvise a couple of tools as the standard orange plastic trim tools were just not up to the job.

started at nearside top clip as and worked around the edges

works great until I switch the engine on ...................

need to sort out a stable 12v supply (not reversing lights) or use capacitor and diodes, will post another thread when sorted

:crying:

Are you intending feeding the image to an Amundsen + unit or something else?

connecting to a mirror/LCD display unit see here new topic posted

I recently fitted a Backvue DR650S dashcam (front and rear cameras) and life was simple until I got to removing the tailgate inner panel. Those clips definitely don't want to let go... And a handy hint when refitting - get the grab handle correctly positioned before refitting the panel otherwise you get to pull the panel clear again. Ask me how I know...

thanks for to the heads-up

haven't put it back on yet as waiting for a replacement clip, didn't break any but a rear side pillar one flew off into the twilight-light zone (so "borrowed one from the rear door), no doubt in a few years I'll be posting on here abut a rattle that's developed

don't think i'd want the metal on metal scraping scratching denting action going on though.

you'd still need to put some tape or cushioning on, after which it looks like they'd do the job if they didn't snap.
