Featured Replies

Will this VCDS plug originally bought for my 2010 Octavia II be OK for tweaking my Octavia III SE L TSi DSG when it is delivered.

Assuming it's genuine and running the latest software, it should be fine.

Doesn't look like a genuine Ross-Tech lead to me - as well as  a HEX-NET I also have a HEX-USB+CAN (both bought from Ross-Tech direct) and it doesn't have that lamp cover nor is the labelling similar.

What VCDS version are you running? The latest release is17.8, if you're running a much older version then what you have is a third party rip off.

Bought from Ross Tech through Ilexa a UK authorised distributors/reseller of Ross Tech equipment about 2012/2013 so is the genuine article as far as I am aware.

Not currently running any version of VCDS as I have just changed my laptop and haven't installed the latest VCDS on it.

When I bought it it was called VAG-COM.

The version I was running was 15.7 and 17.1 both versions of which updated my cable and both versions worked fine.

I haven't used VCDS since I installed version 17.1 but will update to 17.8 when I get my new car in September/October.

If I remember correctly I didn't do anything with 17.1 but get a full scan of my Control Modules saved to the laptop I now no longer have and the car is being changed anyway.

So, back to my original question, is the plug the same on Mark III facelift 2017 models of Skoda Octavia as previous models?

I agree, looks very much like mine, also via onboarddiagnostics, ie Ilexa! Same here, was a VAG-COM owner > now traded in for the above.

I do believe that at some point, that version of dongle will stop being of use, though physically that is still the same plug and socket.

If in doubt, contact Ilexa, or if you are a "verified user" then ask RossTech directly.  In case you don't know, being a "verified user" does not happen automatically for us long time VAG-COM > VCDS owners.

On their forum (worth joining IMHO) Ross-Tech have stated several times that the MQB2 platform won't be fully supported by any of their leads except the HEX-NET and HEX-V2 because the hardware in the older leads, such as HEX-USB+CAN, can't support some of the protocols used by some of the more obscure modules in the MQB2 platform.

BTW the VCDS software, which is a free download from the Ross-Tech website so there's no reason not to use the latest version, is now at version 17.8.0 as of 31st July 2017.

Oh yes, do you not get "annoying" reminders when you power up any computer with that s/w on it? (that means that I was rewarded with an update yesterday morning!)

Depends if keeping the software updated annoys you or not B)

Very true, I always aim to keep VCDS up to date, so get diverted from what I had planned to do and sort that out first!
