Upgraded from Citigo

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Just ordered a Rallye Green Fabia 1.0 TSI to replace my nearly 3 year old Citigo.

My main complaints with the Citigo were that it wasn't great for dark motorway driving and that it tended to fog up/freeze inside in the winter.  Stereo was a bit weedy too.  Other than that it was a great little car.

The dealer came up with a way to get me out of my PCP which still had 6 months to run.

Excited!

JP

Enjoy your new car.

?

Did you road test a Fabia like you are getting on a dark motorway at night?

Someone here will be able to advise on up-rating the dipped beam.

You need xenons for that then as they are the only thing which will help high speed night driving. Upgrading the standard halogen bulbs makes an improvement although still not brilliant.

As for the freezing up on the inside it sounds like the citigo was getting wet on the inside causing it to get condensation which froze onto the glass.

?

70 or 80 is hardly high speed driving and the full beams are OK for motorways, sometimes big signs are too brightly lit by Full Beam IMO.

The problem is the dipped beam when there is need to dip,

and dipping on NSL (60mph) roads or even slower when cars are coming towards you,

Skoda CZ fit ridiculously poor dipped beams as standard on almost every vehicle that comes to the UK.

Also Skoda CZ  fit some very badly adjusted from the factory headlight units,

never checked or reset at the PDI headlights, which only get picked up on 3 years further on at a UK MOT.

A friend has a Fabia and when riding with him it seemed much better than with my Citigo.  Agreed the full beams are fine but the Citigo dipped beams were not so good.  I will see about upgrading to xenons if I need to.

Are they not legal in the UK or is it not allowed to change the bulbs on a car when it's still under PCP?

HID Kits are for show use only... unfortunately

Even though the Fabia has projector style headlights that wouldn't dazzle oncoming drivers, they are still illegal to convert to HID.

Proper Xenons that come factory fitted need levellers and washers.

Washers are an option on Fabia III, but not Xenons, so a legal retrofit is out of the question.

Nothing to do with PCP fella, just the legality of HID's that has been covered many many times.

My Roomster with (supposedly illegal) HID headlights (and no headlight washers) has sailed through MOT several times already;

The Roomster was severely hampered in the dark and through the winter, by its atrocious original headlights;

Had tried the various "plus 110%/130%" bulbs, minimal improvement;      they are just 10% and 30% better;  bit the bullet, these are WAY better.

Just wash all the lights, numberplates and windows regularly, job done!

Richard

Yes retro fit can be terrible and dangerous,  but before typing the illegal,  washers required, etc etc best check that right out for the UK.   Not as though the same stuff does not get repeated time after time for a decade now.

shame you cant get hids from factory as they are massively better

yes you could fit an hid kit if they are projector headlamps and it should pass mot etc as no washers doesn't mean a fail if they arent even fitted.

Yes, I tried those big bags of Silica Gel and they cleared it up a bit, as well as running the air con lots but still ended up having problems!

If your new car comes with the standard lights HIDs are not an option anyway unless you change the whole headlight unit. Nightbreakers give a much better beam and I can categorically state that Fabia dips are better than Citigo with the same bulbs ,having had both.

Just adjust the standard ones correctly and they are OK. Upgrade builds as well and they are fine. Did we all avoid motorways in the dark before HIDs where invented? Aftermarket HID kits may get through an MOT, but they produce far too much above cutoff light and are unpleasant for other road users.
