Columbus sat nav

Featured Replies

Trying to update maps on my Clumbus ,put disc on and after 30seconds it tells me to insert navigation disc when it's already in ,and help or advice would be appreciated ,my car is 2010 Superb estate

First thing would be where did you get the disc from? Second thing, ask the seller.

After that, it's possible the drive in the Columbus is faulty.

Harry, the disc worked fine for me but I do recall several occasions (with various discs) where this has happened to me.  It's a glitch rather than a fault.  I can't remember how I dealt with it but it was something stupid, either constantly re-inserting the disc or just ignoring it until it started to load.  Try carefully cleaning the disc and then re-inserting it.  I always update the maps while I'm driving (ie with the engine on); don't know if that makes a difference.  The unit stops loading when you stop the engine then carries on from where it left off when you switch on again.  I've known it take 90mins in the past so best to go for a long drive; if you try to eject it too early, it will flash up a warning.

Give it a few more goes and if there's no joy send it back to me for a refund.

Was the disc the right way up?

Do I need ignition on to do the map update

I don't know whether you NEED to but I always do. You'll flatten your battery unless you run the engine, though...

No, just turn the Columbus on and leave it updating, then lock the car and leave it. It'll switch off after half an hour, so go back and reboot it and it'll continue from where it left off.

Keeps telling me to insert navigation disc and it's already in

To reboot do I just eject disc and then replace

sorry to be a nuisance

Sounds like the unit's ronnied or the disc is faulty. A maps update doesn't require any special tricks, just put the disc in and it'll do everything for you. If it isn't working then summat's wrong.

The disc's fine; it's the exact disc I used to upgrade my own unit.  Nevertheless, Harry, just return it for a refund if you'd prefer.

Postmen can damage discs during delivery... ;)

Yes it has the small microphone buttonless are you thinking ,I have had the disc in for a good 3 hours today and nothing seems to be happening although I can hear the unit working

If it's a microphone button then it's probable I can repair it for you. Shoot me a message if you're interested, or a trade for a DAB unit perhaps?
