Yeti damaged by predator......

Featured Replies

Hi to all. A very long time since I last posted! Something unusual happened over the weekend to the black trim on the o/s rear door. Looks like it has been damaged by heat - similar to the Jaguar that received damage from the 'walkie talkie' building in London.

has anyone else experienced anything similar?

It does look like damage from focused sun light, maybe two days running. Thing is, this is Britain - have we had any sun lately?

Hi Jim. I think the Sun also. But not happened previously, and this is East Yorkshire - more likely to get wind burn!

It looks more like a blow torch or head gun burn the way it's blistered.

You've been lucky; they usually put a Hellfire (missile) in there! ;)

More seriously, like Clive says I'd suspect the use of a concentrated heat source.

If you draw imaginary lines to the right from those burns, do they lead to your door mirror? If so would the sun have been behind your car on that side over the weekend? Were you mirrors folded?

Thanks Jim, Clive and Ken. As they say 'here's the thing' - hadn't thought about it this way. For two weekends recently Yeti WAS parked in a different position to any other time in the last four years. Indeed Jim it was parked  (just checked with my compass) facing directly west, mirrors not folded. So could this be the answer.....

We are moving to East Yorkshire soon, I didn't realise just how hot EY can get, Sun cream ordered

I can't believe it could be the sun reflected off the mirror, the damage is fairly even as if whatever has caused it was from directly on it, not from such a narrow angle from a mirror 6 feet away.

I reckon that's sunburn too.  It looks like the heat has tracked across the surface, as the sun has moved across the sky.  I doubt it's the mirrors as these don't focus light like a lens or concave mirror would.  I'd be parking my car back where that happened and then looking around for suspects.

Thanks Clive and Weasley. Will investigate further. Auric - welcome to East Yorkshire (ok, a pre-welcome), you'll love it. Hope not too near the coast as we tend to lose a little more each year.......

Whatever the sun is doing you should be able to park your car outside in the UK summer.

My question would be is the trim fit for purpose?

When we move  I'll  organise a EY meet

Shouldn't that be an Ey Up meet?

Coat on, heading for the corner............................

Llanigraham - e Bygum! How long have you had your Yeti now, or is that a new one? Had ours four years, still an excellent car. No thought of changing. Main dealer cr*p. Now serviced by someone who cares......

I do not think this is caused by sunlight in any ways. Lately in Greece we had temperatures up to 43 degrees Centigrades and nothing similar happened to cars.

Indeed that seems pretty intended.

Vandalism !   Any neighbours that don't like you ?

We get 40+ degree days in summer here in Sydney.  Unless someone is holding a magnifying glass to your car, I don't think the sun did that ...

Nobody is suggesting it is caused by direct sunlight.  It is suggested that it could be a focussed beam from a freak lens or mirror effect off of a nearby building or other structure.  It happens.
