Yeti damaged by predator......

Nobody is suggesting it is caused by direct sunlight.  It is suggested that it could be a focussed beam from a freak lens or mirror effect off of a nearby building or other structure.  It happens.

My tour guide pointed that out to us when we visited ! But this damage looks too localised.. like someone has directly targeted the car and damaged it

Heather Patron of Studio City (Los Angeles, Calif.) accuses her neighbors of a dastardly crime -- melting her Toyota Motor Comp. (TYO:7203Prius.  No, really.  This was no Hawaiian Baby Woodrose-induced optical illusion, her neighbors’ energy-efficient window treatment had melted the plastic molding of her Prius' mirror housings.
Los Angeles is a seasonable southern city on the west coast.  Its average monthly maximum temperatures are historically confined to the 64-77 ºF range year round

Glass in double paned windows may on occasion slightly warp or deflect due to a difference in the barometric pressure between the interior of the glass panes and the outside air pressure. This can create a concavity in the glass. Such a concavity is a normal response to pressure differences, does not affect the performance of the window, and does not constitute a defective window condition. However, the concavity may focus sunlight reflected from the window in a fashion similar to the effect seen when light passes through a magnifying glass. This focused light may land on adjacent building surfaces, and appear as a brilliant star-shaped spot. The concentrated heat generated by the focused reflected sunlight results in surface temperatures well above that encountered from direct sunlight, and has the capability of causing damage to exposed materials, especially those which are plastic based........

....Darker colors absorb more heat, and will soften before lighter colors of siding. There have been reports of reflected sunlight heat damage to materials other than vinyl siding, such as wood 2 and paint discoloration, and damage to other plastic based products, such as automobile components, lawn furniture, decking, window lineals, and trim

Given the right kind of plastic container and the right environmental conditions, sun shining through a water bottle can indeed lead to combustion. A round plastic bottle filled with clear water can act as a lens that concentrates the sun's energy on one point.

Mark Gillings of Queenstown came back to his car after a few hours fishing to find a burn mark on the back seat of his Chrysler Jeep Cherokee. It turned out that a full 1.25-litre Pump water bottle, which was sitting in the rear seat centre drinks holder, had focused the sun's rays like a magnifying glass on the seat about three centimetres from the holder.

Does the location where the vehicle was parked have cctv? Might be worth a punt.

Better photo - Carlo!

Ah! That's helpful....

JMO - sun reflection damage, not deliberate.  Two reasons:  1.  No hand-held attack would be likely to produce such regular scars, and 2. neat cut-off either side of the trim - neither the synthetic seal nor the roof appear to show any damage at all.

Bad luck

Do you think the Yeti is so fast that these could be scorch marks caused by re-entrey..................

Jim - thanks for the links. Very interesting.

Fin - nope, no cctv, only dashcam.

Brijo - agree. Damage is only to door trim. Neither paint of rubber are affected.

Oh well, it will remain a 'battle scar' for now.

I understood the pics to be of Spridgetman's Yeti.  BossFox's would be another matter entirely.

Llanigraham - e Bygum! How long have you had your Yeti now, or is that a new one? Had ours four years, still an excellent car. No thought of changing. Main dealer cr*p. Now serviced by someone who cares......

Now on my second one, bought both of these April last year.

Goes a bit quicker than that!!

It is so I can see the settings up to 40mph and not get caught.

Thought that's the reason for the flat bit on the exhaust!!  -- you really will have to be more carefull!!  -  or take more water with it!!

Flat bit is intentional. The box is an original 2CV box that should fit underneath and the flat bit is where the chassis cross member goes.

^ ok, its a bit boring here in the corner!!  : - ((

As an aside G the steam service Pontrieux - Paimpol is up and running again(will pm some press pics later), will find out if the 0-6-0 0-6-0 loco is back outside Carhaix station tomorrow, a huge  flea market there in the town centre streets etc
