Tailgate Locking

Featured Replies

I am looking for advice on whether my tailgate locking works as it should.

I have the car set for 1 press of the remote opens the driver's door with 2 presses opening all doors.  I don't have the autolocking set (so the doors do not lock when the car starts to move).

I press the remote twice and my wife and I get into the car.  We drive to the local supermarket and she gets out (I stay in the car).  She goes to open the tailgate and it is locked.  I have to unlock it by using the button on the dashboard (press it twice) or by opening the driver's door which seems to unlock the tailgate.  Is this working as it should and, if so, what is the logic of this setup?

Logic???                It's a Skoda, Lol.

Maybe it's so no 'grants' can jump in your boot whilst you're not looking. .

This seems to be a change/improvement that VWG rolled out across their marques many years ago!

I first came across this when using my daughter's late 2009 Ibiza to travel to work - security did a spot check on the car on the way into work, probably to make sure that I had not forgotten to remove anything that I had stolen the previous day(???)!  Anyway, I said okay to open the hatch, he couldn't, I was confused so opened the driver's door at which point the security guy managed to open the hatch!  I don't think that I worked out what was going on at that time, but some time later, again driving that car, I stopped to pick up my wife, she got a bit annoyed when she could not open the hatch!! Coming from running a 2002 VW Polo and a 2000 VW Passat 4Motion saloon, that was a very strange idea that SEAT had had I thought. Now running a 2015 VW Polo and 2011 Audi S4, I've almost got used to it, handy but annoying at times, I think that you could stop that happening by a bit of selective recoding using VCDS as I'm sure I noticed that option while looking through some of the controller's channels.

to nbramwel,

Yes this is correct.

After you drive off the car disables the boot lock.

This is done to stop to someone opening your boot and nicking something while you are 'say' stopped at lights.

In some areas of this country this is common especially where there is plenty of nose to tail traffic waiting.

You are not likely to leave your car in this situation and give chase.

They will also walk along traffic looking for handbags/mobiles on the passenger seat.

There have even been some thefts from moving lorry's on a motorway where the rear doors were not locked.

They actually drive right up to the back of the lorry while it is going along the road and climb in to the back!

Thanks AG Falco

I have found you have to turn off the engine before you can unlock the hatch using the key fob so my friend can get his walking kit out of the boot. I have not tried, while siiting in the drivers seat, to pressing the lock/unlock on the dashboard while the engine is running to see if the hatch can be opened by another person. That's your homework for next week :)) Joe

Yes it will unlock with engine running all doors closed and the car stationary, if you press the "unlock" button.

But as said, you need to prove that to yourself!

Thank you to all.  Glad I don't have a coding problem.

It's working the exact same way as mine. It's a touch frustrating IMO, but not annoying enough to mess around with.
