BATTERY NOT CHARGING WARNING

Featured Replies

Good Morning,  This is a new problem on my 2013 Skoda Octavia .  The other day a message flashed up saying "Battery not charging error" along with the small red warning triangle on the dash.  Rightly or wrongly this was diagnosed as a fault in the alternator which we replaced.  I believe the battery reading was around 12.25 when we done the change. All errors caused were reset by diagnostics. The car drove and worked ( TAXI ) normally for 24 hours and the same error came up . The battery was changed. Now the same thing happened after 24 hours AND at exactly the same time as the night before. First reported error was  Stop/Start.  The car appears to start okay but with error warning lights appearing like stop/start, tyre pressure warning,  steering error.  The thing the driver noticed was  the car would run at 1000 rpm for a few minutes while stationary before dropping back to it's normal. This has happened overnight with no other work having been done to the car.   After diagnostic there are NO errors ......until this happens again.  Have I just wasted the best part of £500 on an alternator / battery  ...or is there worse to come. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There were checks to be done, earths etc.

Was this Skoda Specialist Cars John Clark Group?

No this was not Clark group?  What checks should be done ?

Assuming it's a diesel, the 1000rpm for a few minutes is the DPF regen happening.

Could be.....but I'm more concerned with the battery issue

When you charged the battery where did you connect the negative lead? On start/stop cars you must not connect the neg lead to the battery but to the body or the system gets confused and odd things will happen.
