oil use

Featured Replies

Just curious, does the 1.4 tsi have the same oil usage problems as the 1.8,

never had any great problem with mine & I drove it hard

Hi Skippy, it's my understanding that this is a different engine - with (so far) none of the issues that the previous CAVE / CTHE engines had regarding excessive oil consumption.

Done 39k km since purchase in 2014 and never had to top up between the mandatory 1year/or 15k km services (Australia hot/dusty conditions do not allow the extended service intervals option)

Admittedly not high mileage and not driven hard but the oil always looked amazingly clean on the dipstick when I do check it prior to any long journey.

3rd gen 1.8 TSI has oil problems? Yes, you might say, if you drive on LongLife, then you might need to give it a zip between 20-30k km, but as I am running on normal (non LongLife) at 15k km interval, then I have never toped anything in there - at around 70k km at the moment.

After 15k km my indicator (stick) is at around 1/3 to the low line.

For notes I give the car plenty of occasional accelerations (after oil is up to temp of course).
