Skoda Dog Guard Fitting Pack

Recommended Posts

Okay so for anyone buying the Trunk Grille (5E9 071 195) for the MK3 Octavia Estate, a "fitting pack" is needed.

This comes with the trunk grille if you buy new from a dealer, but doesn't if buy used. This is because 4 rivets need to be riveted to the car. See below manual:

Fitting pack part no: 5E9 017 737. When I contacted my local dealer, no Skoda dealer in the UK had this in stock so had to be ordered from Czech Republic.

I didn't use any of the specialist tools that Skoda list, but bought a riveting tool off eBay for the job:

Hi,

I have a copy of the template that shows where the top holes need to go, I'll dig it out and scan it to pdf then post it up on here.

The lower holes have a small mark in the plastic to show you where they need to go.

Have you got the part number for it?

No. Guess I'll find out when I get the car. Thought they might be similar being VAG. The VW one is just secured by a thin piece of metal that hooks onto the catch which locks the back seats in the upright position.

They are very different in appearance and, as you state, fitting arrangement is also different. Would be surprised if the golf one were compatible with the Octy.

Am I missing something here?  You can get a brand new Octavia Mk3 Estate dog guard from Travail which comes with all the fittings and no riveting required. They do one for estates with or without sunroofs as they are slightly different. I have had mine for about a year now and they fit really well, solid and sturdy. I did lose one of the tiny rubber feet  when I took it out  and Travail sent me 2 spares free of charge.

Update: Clearly I was missing something, you already had the guard from ebay!

Here you go, template to mark the hole to be drilled into the headlining.

The rule is to give you a scale, but I have printed it off on A4 and checked it against the original.

Hope it helps out.

Just fitted my Octavia dog grill with the help of your pattern thanks. (it's not an easy job). The addition of a ruler is inspired and allowed a scaling adjustment to be made on the printed template. With my printer it worked out about 3mm longer and about half a mill wider.  Use a ruler to measure the printed ruler to get your own scale.  The holes ended up absolutely exactly in the right place, more so than the pre-marked holes in the plastic sides which were slightly off (but OK).   Another tip is when drilling the head-lining, use your drill slowly IN REVERSE to avoid snagging the material. Also, if you're using the nut and bolt method to set your rivnuts you'll need a 130mm M8 bolt and a bag of washers (or home-made spacer) to extend through the headlining.

Hi cmalc, I just tried using the nut and bolt method today on the side ‘trunk lining’ first before embarking on the ceiling ones. I’ve really struggled to get the rivnut to expand into the hole, I think it is spinning but not 100% because it’s all a bit out of sight behind the linings. Any more tips if you can remember!?
