Lane assist with Full LED AFS?

Featured Replies

I'm waiting for my O3 FL which I ordered with the Full LED AFS headlights (it also comes with HBA).

Does someone know if the camera used for AFS is the same as Lane Assist?

Thanks.

AFS/AFSII don't need a camera, they take steering input, speed and suspension level data to direct the headlights up/down/left/right.

HBA adds a lowline camera, only capable of dipping the high beams.

Smart light assist requires a highline camera (the same used for lane assist) and uses a mask or turns individual LED's off to keep the high beam on without blinding oncoming traffic. I don't think the Octavia has this option yet.

This post explains my understanding of various Skoda/VAG terms for lighting:

Hmm.  My fl-VRS headlights don't move with steering input like my pre-fl did. Is it meant to?

They should - just make sure your light switch is set in the "auto" position.

No, the new LED headlights don't move sideways, only up and down (self-levelling).

The beam pattern is wider compared to the xenons so it's not neccessary anymore.

Ah. That would explain it then. I have noticed the beam changes shape dependent on speed.

"Pointy headlights" are one of the coolest features on the pre-FL. I never get bored of watching the headlights turn a corner before the car does.

...simple minds:biggrin:.

Thank you for the clarification @langers2k, much appreciated.

I was hoping there for a second, I would be able to vcsd-code my way to lane assist but not so lucky.

Well that a good reason to not buy a FL then, I like the pointy lights

Definitely

Octavia has "Intelligent Light Assist", so not really Smart... but is it the same thing?  - > ILA used for changing between low and high beam, with incoming traffic and city lights.

In the end are we able to enable Lane assist or traffic sigh recognition from here? Or is there a different camera needed?

Pretty sure that 'intelligent light assist' only needs a lowline camera, this is normally part of the rear view mirror mount.

Lane assist and 'smart light assist' ('dynamic light assist') need a highline camera, this is far too big to fit in the mount. Instead, you'll be able to see a triangle shaped cutout at the top of the windscreen.
