Possible remap on my car??

Featured Replies

Hi I've recently bought a friends 05 reg Fabia VRS that i was planning to sell straight on but after driving it for the weekend i might keep it. I've got a question about a re map that he thought was loaded onto the car, but had no proof. I does pull well but as I've not driven a VRS before so I've nothing to compare it too.

Would a map remove the rev limiter on a Tdi? It pulls well past 4k and doesn't seem to want to stop until you change gear. I'm not new to mapping and have had a couple of car's mapped but they have been petrol's and totally different to this one.

Is there any way of telling if the car's been remapped by plugging it in to a code reader/scanner?

Cheers :D

Not really, you could possibly use Torque and an ELM327.... Boost should not go above 1.3 bar regularly if it's not mapped.

if it wants to spin the wheels in second easily then I would say its mapped. Thats about all I can say

If it's mapped then you'll be back on here crying about the clutch and flywheel shortly.

Is that's in the wet or the dry? It doesn't in the dry, it picks up speed well. It does in the wet though.

I'll see if I can some how get it tested. If I sell it I'd ideally want it all standad.

Haha do they eat clutches? I bought it from a friend who owned it for 18 months, it's the owner before him that said it was remapped, it's her that 'apparently' had it done, the service history is huge but has no paperwork for a remap though :(. It will have done around 25k miles with the map on if it has. Tbh it does drive without fault but I'd like it standard if it has got one on.

I guess the only way to properly find out then would be to book it in to a tuner to read the ecu properly?

Well mine spins the wheels in second in the dry and its got a gentle remap on it for economy rather than power

Ah does it, ok I've not had this happen in this one. It picks up speed well but doesn't spin between change's. It doesn't appear to have a rev limiter though, it will rev all the way round if you want it to.

If there's no easy way of telling I'll probably get it booked in to a tuner, I'll see if they will just have a look for a small fee. Maybe 30 min's or an hours labour? I had every intention of selling it on but it's a nice car to be in, I'm not sure now.

Think they run out at about 4.5k revs standard, remapped I'm able to get it to 5k so maybe yours is if it keeps on going beyond redline.

Yes id imagine most tuners can scan it and see what map is on it shouldn't take too long to pull the file off the car.

mapped my car a month or so ago, i am looking for new clutch and flywheel haha, but the remap is totally worth it! no problem spinning wheels in 2 gear and abit of wheel spin in 3rd on dry road, and alot of wheel spin in 3rd on wet road!

Are the remaps that harsh on the clutches then? Or are they already on their way out before being mapped? This one pulls well but I've nothing to compare it too. There's not any slip.

I've just been out and done a vid with the phone strapped to the wheel. I'll upload it to YouTube and you guys can see what you think? It seems to go well. It pulls to 5k with power slowly dipping off, there deffo isn't any kind of limiter.

My clutch was on its way out anyway, even with the remap it does not slip or atleast i cant tell when it is slipping.

Ok what do you guys think? I pulled away on some frigging gravel so slipped in 1st but the rest of the gears were ok. Does that looked remapped?

Ill have to book it in somewhere to see for sure.

To me personally it looks stock, i have way more wheel spin with the remap, still remapped or not the car is very quick.

I would say remapped, revs out too easily for standard

OK cheers guys that's something to work with then. Its not a definite no so I'll book it in with someone down this way to investigate.

Minjuskas, it does seem to pick up well once out of 1st gear but it means nothing when I can't compare it so this has helped millions.

Minjuskas and Clarendon462, what power are your 2 cars running roughly?

My Fabia vRS is standard and there is no way mine accelerates like yours in the video.

I now want a remap!

I'm running about 160-165bhp according to my mapper and it seems to be about right by comparison to standard.

In 3rd in the wet I can make it spin out Pretty well with the traction control off and even in the dry it wants to loose grip when going over bumps etc which it never did as standard

Just do it, you won't regret it at all but your tyre wear will suffer once you start using all that extra powerrrrr

My car is making 166.1hp and 308lb/ft. The car would make roughly 170-172hp if the turbo vanes were not sticking causing abit of lag. Here's a pic i took when the car was remapped.

Just get it done! Best €250 that i have ever spent!

Got it done by ecuremappingsouthwest but don't know who wrote the maps

Flipflop, I used to have a Golf pd150 with a remap on it, and I am sure it never revved out that quickly.

I am thinking it has more than just a remap on it.

What do the others think who just have a remap?

This might be the mapped roughly the same then? I was having a Goggle last night and most tuners say around 170 ish. I am going to book it in somewhere and try and find out what/if a map is on it.

By all accounts a remap is the way to go to liven them up a bit from what I've been reading. I will try and see if i can drive a standard one to compare to this one.

The car has an extensive service history, totalling big money since new, yearly servicing and general upkeep. The first service was at Skoda and the rest have been at the same garage right up until last week. I think there's every invoice from new. There's nothing in the history to show anything being done other than servicing, tyres, upkeep, nothing to show a remap or any other upgrades so from the outside it does look like it's pretty much standard??

Once it gets going it does pick up speed well. I'll stick some V power in it.

Anyone know of any club rolling road day's planned? I'm in Cornwall but don't mind travelling a bit if there's one on soon? :)
