Canton alternative

Featured Replies

If I get another Superb, then I'm thinking that instead of spending £600 on Canton that I effectively lose at the end of the lease, that I could get my own audio equipment fitted - and the fitter would restore the OEM stuff at the end of the lease - and move my gear into the next one (likely a Superb PHEV)

When I was talking to a Mercedes Benz ICE specialist, he was advocating simple loudspeaker replacement (with Focal drivers, I think) and I wonder if he'd take the same approach for a Superb?

Anyway, has anyone here upgraded their standard audio in the Superb?

If you proceed with this - make sure you get a speaker that matches the headunits soundsignature. I don't know how it's made today but back in 04 I had a Passat B4 (new) where the headunits soundsignature been matched to the really poor factory speakers. As I didn't know this I put some nice JL audio kit speakers in that car. The result was awful, really really bad sound! AMP section of that headunit hadn't enough amperage to properly drive the speakers and the EQ curve (factory calibrated not the one with treble etc) made it sound like an old pocket radio.

This might not be the case today but something to think about when buying new speakers.

I do think the Hertz got quite good reviews in VAG with standard headunit.

Sure, I wouldn't just buy some random speakers (whichever had the biggest "discount"!) and get someone to put them in - I'd want to give the job to someone who understood music (I think such people exist!).

But thanks for the warning.
