Old member - New car

Featured Replies

Joined this forum some years ago to help my sister out when sorting some problems with her old Felica.

Unfortunately it was scrapped after being hit by a road sweeper. Not my sister fault as she was waiting at a junction when it went down the side of the car.

Insurance paid out so she liked the Skoda brand so much she got another a 1.9D Sport on a 09 plate.

I started a new job and needed a car to go from Portsmouth to Littlehampton, did not have a lot of cash at the time but now have a 1.2HTP Fabia on a 08 plate with only 27000 miles on the clock. Got for a bargin as the previous owner spilt paint on the rear seat then tried to clean it up with thinners.

I am now enjoying the car but not the engine but to be honest the MPG is not what I would have thought as getting about 38mpg on a journey that is about 70% dual carriageway and driving about 60mph @ 3000rpm. Hoping the longer journeys might improve it as I think most of its previous life had been short stop start journeys. Had only done about 6000miles 5 years ago according to the MOT history.

small engined petrol - not the ideal car for mainly consistent high speed - I would say 38mpg is good.

is this reading from the on board computer? have you done a real lift test?

also you say 70% duals but not how far you're actually going

Welcome back to the forum though :)

Understand the small engine not ideal but was all I could afford at the time.

MPG I have calculated going on fuel used and miles done each time I fill up. Total journey is about 35 miles with 12 roundabouts on the route so that not helping much either.

Giving it a year and then getting something with another cylinder.
