If anyone would be so kind as to help me out, whilst showing off their photoshop skills, I would be most gratedful. What I would like is to put some VW Evolo wheels onto my vRS, trouble is I want to keep it standard ride height. Below is a link to Jason's old Fabia with Evolos on, and I have a standard black Fabia vRS; there is a side on photo in the alloys section of a black standard one that's not lowered if you want to use this as the platform (or another similar car, as there's loads of photos of them on here). I just would like to know whether it will look silly at standard ride height with 17s on, or whether the wheels are butch enough to get away with it.......after all a Polo Dune looks okay doesn't it?!!!!

Thank you!

I can already tell you you need to drop your car a good figure with the bigger wheels. Otherwise, you're better off keeping the standard alloys.

Why would you wanna keep it standard ride height?? Don't you wanna improve handling??

Lowering the car only improves the handling on well surfaced roads that aren't too bumpy. Been there done that and written several books on the subject. One of the attractions of the vRS was the ride quality. I had a PD130 Ibiza which you would think was more or less the same car, but the ride quality wasn't very good and as I'm not a young buck boy racer anymore I'm fussy when it comes to refinement (up to a point).

The best way to improve handling on most VAG cars are to replace the standard shocks with some uprated gas items and add slightly bigger anti roll bars, keeping the standard springs. In my experience, and lots of it, lowering the car swaps looks for refinement. I would however love to be proved wrong and would gladly eat a big slice of humble pie........:)

I'd think if you got a proper suspension setup like coilovers where you could get the suspension tuned professionally, you'd pretty much get anything close to standard ride quality.

I want to change my shocks of my car. Got bigger 16" rims with low profile tyres and I lowered it about 40mm and the ride is very rough. I think that getting proper after market shocks and having a pro garage tune my suspension will help improve the ride quality big time, while keeping performance up to par, as I have read in many articles.

You don't have to be a young man to want to do these things. It won't make you any less of a man or less wiser in your old age if you have 'young lad' urges in you. Unless of course you just really don't wanna bother changing your suspension.

Just an idea yo.

You've hit the nail on the head there Mil, basically I don't want to modify the suspension if I can help it. I've just sold a car that had modified suspension on it and I wasn't over pleased with the ride quality of that, nor of most of the others I've done in the past, which all added together makes a lot of money spent over the years. I appreciate a good handling car, but I bought the vRS feeling that it had a reasonable balance and I didn't want to modify it further than a re-map and put my old alloys on it. In short I've got fed up spending thousands on cars as once you've modified one part of the car it shows up another area that needs doing!

Your input is appreciated though and that's the beauty of public forums such as this one, it's always good to hear other peoples opinions and experiences.

As for my manly urges - I'm 'only' 37 and everything seems to be working fine thanks!!!!:rofl:

Nice wheels, I like them a lot. Would look great on mine with Eibachs... ;)

Any idea how much they weigh compared to standard wheels and tyres?

OI! You were going to sell those to me at a massive cut down asking price. ;) :P

This is with 30mm eibach springs on - You know you want to ;)

John: Thanks!

Tom: Thanks as well.:) Didn't weigh them but can say after putting each wheel in the boot to take to tyre fitters and taking them back out again that the 17s do weigh a fair bit more.

Jason: They look better on the silver car too  It was the 'knock down price' that worried me

 Only kidding. :D I just remember you saying you weren't sure about fitting them to your vRS. :D

I wasn't sure for ages as I knew they'd fetch a good price with the 225s on as they're very sought after in VW circles.

Luckily I'd seen yours around and also the photos so I knew they suited the Furby better than a Golf!!!! LOL

:iagree:

If I could get another set at the bargain price I paid for my first set, I'd go back to them. They were gorgeous, easy to clean, wide and great quality wheels.

At least I'll be able to spot your furby easier now, from ALL the others around Exeter. :D
