Superb MK2 FL 2.0CR 170HP Aftermarket HID

Featured Replies

Hello Briskoders,

Apologies if there is a thread like that but I was not able to find it. I am driving my Super for quite some time and lately I need to drive most of the time at night. This is there I regret that I didn't purchase it with the Xenon feature... However I hear really bad things and nobody ensures me that it will work with aftermarket one. I have the regular headlight with H7 lens and H15 reflector high beam. My DRLs are in the high beam bulb which is ok I accept it but I want someone to help me better understand what is wrong with the aftermarket Xenon/HID systems. Is there anyone who already tricked it and made it work, and how it happened.

Please help me because I really want to get more light during my night travels. I have no regulations in our country so just fitting aftermarket kit would be enough. No need for automatic leveling and etc.

Regards,

Vasko

Poor quality and/or poorly installed aftermarket kits are known to burn out the driver chips in the BCM.

Why not try some better bulbs:-

Philips Xtreme Vision plus

or Osram Nightbreaker

That is why I am writing here to see if someone did it and what was the KIT used. :)

LED replacements?

If you really want to go with HID, I believe user mike holroyd has done this on an Octavia 2 - you could search that section for his write-up on it.

I've used Osram Nightbreakers on a previous car on which I had also tried HIDs and found them more than acceptable. They're worth trying and are quite a lot cheaper than decent aftermarket HIDs. It's also worth checking that your headlight lenses are in good condition - any scratches or scuffing will affect light output quite a bit.

Never thought about this. Is there LED bulbs that can represent 4300K light? I wan it as closer as possible to the sunlight and original Xenon system.

Will check the section and see if I can find something useful. I asked for this specific model because I believe there are differences in the BCMs for the different models and years.

While there are differences in the BCMs, the basic problem is the same: poorly isolated electrical connection between BCM and ballast leads to voltage spikes from the ballast hitting the BCM and frying stuff. I'm pretty sure Mike's solution involved some form of electrical isolation.

It very much depends on the year of your Superb, the HID kits work better on the older cars.

As you are using dipped headlights for DRL's I'm assuming your car is a 2009 / 2010 without the dedicated DRL's down next to the foglights?

I've been running this kit on my car for almost 5 years / 100,000 miles without issue...

Note that this is a kit for cars WITHOUT the CANBUS, I've used VCDS to code the BCM to think it has xenon's fiited. The CANBUS-friedly kits are known to cause electrical issues and are best avoided.

The fitting for the Superb is almost identical to that of the MkII Octavia, see here for a guide including the coding...

This is the kit I fitted...

The London Colour kits are as good as these kits get, they are very well proven. I bought two, the second as a spare, it is still in the garage!
