Headlamp deflectors for Europe driving.

Featured Replies

Bought the basic 1.4 tsi 123bhp petrol model in July in Ireland. Going to France next week. Cannot find out from dealer or Skoda Ireland whether the lights can be deflected for Continental driving within the available car mechanisms or do I have to revert to the traditional stick on diverters?

If you have the Active finish, it looks like it doesn't have the Adaptive Frontlight System which would be used with the Travel mode function. ( I'm open to correction ... )

Yes, it's the Active. Skoda Customer Services told  me that there's a manual lever on the dashboard to adapt the beams but can't tell me where the lever is. I'm really confused and Skoda is not.helping.

From the Owners Manual.

Driving abroad Read and observe on page 64 first.

When driving in countries with opposing traffic system (traffic on the left/right), your headlights may dazzle oncoming traffic. Therefore, it is necessary to have the headlights adapted by a specialist garage.

The headlights with LED lamps can by adjusted by enabling the travel mode in the Infotainment in the menu CAR →  → Light. In this mode, no automatic beam adjustment is made ahead of the vehicle.

We Don't have LED lights.

In that case you'll need to contact the garage.

do you have a manual wheel edge adjuster near to the light switch if so try rolling it down, on a yeti this puts the beam into a sort of base position, normally that will not blind oncoming traffic!

I'll have a look and try this. Thank you.

The stick on ones are a nightmare.  Not designed very well as they tend to melt and leave a sticky mark on the headlight.  I would just turn them down and it should be fine.  I drive alot in Germany and haven't had issues with modern headlights dazzleing.

Thanks, Dogsoldier. What do you mean by 'turn them down'? Rgds.

As said before. Just angle them down and it flattens the beam out.

How do you physically angle them down? Is there a switch/lever somewhere that allows you to do that?

Maybe I'm wrong but i would have thought you can angle the beam lower.  Unless it is automatic headlight levelling.

If you are towing or carrying a heavy load there is usually a dial to turn down the angle of the beam so as not to dazzle.  I'm wondering if these are auto levelling

Hi Dogsoldier. I'm sitting in the Kodiaq looking at the dashboard. There is no facility there for angling the beams. We do not have the option to change the beam via the Infotainment menu because the car is a low spec. I think it'll have to be the stick-on deflectors. Can't believe that Skoda doesn't know where we physically stick on the deflectors so we'll have to do it by turning the lights on in front of reflective glass and guessing the position. Thanks for your help.

Sorry to hear that. I regretted putting those on the first time then never bothered.

Have you had a look at the headlamp to see if there are any markings or indicators to show where to place a deflector?

I had markings on the headlamps of my 2003 Honda Civic which showed where to place them.

A 'Simply Clever' idea by Honda without making the Škoda song and dance about it.

i used the stickers for my octavia, and just guessed where the "middle" of the light was.

afterwards a combination of driving with the lights on for a while (to warm up the adhesive) and then trying to pull them off while raining resulted in a clean "peel" with no residue left.

I have the same problem. Have been in touch with Skoda - no idea what to do. Contacted Halfords and was told no fitting instructions available yet for their Eurolites stick on headlamp adaptors (which I have used with no problems re applying/removing for years).

Solution here: http://www.motoring-into-europe.co.uk/fitting.html

basically you need to gain access to a headlamp testing rig and use it ti identify the part of the headlamp beams that will dazzle other drivers 'sur le continent' and find the best position for the adaptors to go (all explained in above link).

I have arranged for this procedure to be carried out at my dealer a couple of days before I set off.

Hope this helps

This is where Eurolites say the deflectors should be placed. Good luck.

Hi. Thanks for that!

I think for halogen headlights this is the solution (from Owners manual... RTFM :-)):

"Headlight range control of the Halogen headlights

The headlight range can be set in Infotainment in the menu  /

Light.



The range of the halogen headlights can be set on the screen, in accordance

with the vehicle load, to the following basic settings.

Front seats occupied, boot empty 0

All seats occupied, boot empty 2

All seats occupied, boot loaded 4

Driver seat occupied, boot loaded 6

Depending on the load of the vehicle, the positions 1.3 .5can also be set.

Set it to 6 and problem solved...

Garfield, these settings are for weight adjustment in the car, not beam deflection.
