Fabia VRS AUX/Drive Belt Replacement How to?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My Belt deiced it wanted to shred today :(

I've got a new one waiting when i go home but i was wandering if this is a simple fix?

i've found this guide : http://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/fabia-mk1/drive_unit/1.9/96_tdi_engine_mechanics/enginecrankshaft_group_pistons/removing_and_installing_v-ribbed_belt/removing_the_v-ribbed_belt/

Can it be changed without removing other parts from the engine?

My car has AC so will it be a case of an extra pulley to put the belt around?

Also can i drive the car without the belt? (this will only be 1 mile to get to a relative who has some tools and ramp etc)

Cheers

Ry

Yes its simple to do, open bonnet, take the intercooler pipe off to give you more space (screwdriver to pull the clips) and if I remember correctly a 16mm spanner to move the tensioner, I used a 16mm combination spanner with the ring end on the tensioner, get a 17mm spanner and use that on the open end of the 16mm spanner to give you more leverage as the tension is quiet strong.

You don't need a ramp, 10 minute job if it all goes smoothly. no need to drive it just stroll around and borrow a 16mm and 17mm combination spanners and a screwdriver.

So the belt only lasted until last night DOH!!!

would that mean the tension Pulley is broke? How easy is this to change? Is it another DIY option plus another belt.

I have the Pulley listed below has anyone got any advice on how to remove and replace?

Has it really taken you 7 years to get around to replacing the semi shredded belt or has the replacement failed?

If the latter you should check the alternator one way sprag clutch if fitted, the diagram shows one.

Huh?

Correct, a senior moment, I had thought that Brysoni232 had made a new posting today.

Apologies to all.
