Vacuum Pipe!

Featured Replies

Posted this up under 'My Performance' but am having no joy with an answer so I thought I'd try this zone.

Can someone answer this query for me;-

Someone must know what the valve does?

If not, do I get a prize for stumping the Briskoda.net community?

There are umpty thousand valves and pipes under the bonnet of the 1.8T and I for one cannot identify that particular valve in ETKA. Maybe K will get around to checking against the Octavia Workshop Manuals when he has some spare time.

The Ecotek FAQs state the following:

(Q) There is a non-return valve on my vacuum servo hose, which side of this do I fit the device?

(A) On the inlet manifold side. So we have inlet manifold, Ecotek CB-26P, non return valve and brake diaphragm drum - in that order. The non return valve is fitted by some manufacturers to maintain the vacuum for power assisted braking if the vacuum line should fail for some reason.

And I'm moving it again to performance... where it belongs.

I'll repeat what I (thought I had) posted earlier - that I am deeply sceptical about E*tek valves providing any economy benefit, and at worst they could result in over-lean mixture and hence overheating.

IMHO, vacuum valve will be for either maintaining vacuum as mentioned by Stu, or preventing parts of the vacuum system being contaminated by crankcase fumes.
